Coming from a place more flat than Springfield

Sports columnist

Hi readers, my name is Evan. Let me tell you a little bit about my perspective. I am from Arlington Heights, which is a northwest suburb of Chicago, and I will definitely bring some Chicago attitude to this column.

Being from Chicago, I have been exposed to many sports. I do, however, have three big ones that I have always been interested in: baseball, football, and hockey. For the record, I’m a huge White Sox fan. In this column I will be as objective as I can be when it comes to baseball. For all you Cubs fans out there, that doesn’t mean that I hate your team. For all you Cardinal fans out there, that doesn’t mean I don’t pay attention to your team either. I am just a huge White Sox fan that is inventing new nervous ticks because of the Twins (as if being a graduate student wasn’t stressful enough).

The next sport that I like is football. In particular the Bears, although I’m a huge Patriots fan too and I’ve learned from Robert Edwards that Hawaii can be a paradise as well as a damnable island, like the one in “Lost.” I don’t know much about arena football, so throughout this season I will be talking about the Bears and throw in some information about the Patriots and other happenings throughout the NFL.

Finally, I’m a really big NHL fan. And I love the Blackhawks. So for all you hockey-starved students, staff, and Springfieldians, don’t worry, because I have your hockey fix. Once the puck drops, we will talk about hockey.

With baseball winding down and the race for the playoffs almost finished, Southsiders are on the edge of their seat. We have to face a really scary Twins team. The Twins are a good team-- a really good team. Cardinal fans, I know that they are chasing the Brewers, so we will reflect on that wild card race as well. As for Cubs fans, well, you really have nothing to worry about. They have pretty much punched their ticket to the NLDS. As the playoff races will start to settle, I’m eager to dive deeper into baseball, but until next week, this is Evan saying “peace”.

Feel free to comment and bring up anything that you want to talk about.
