3OH3Worst Tease: 3OH3! and Katy Perry Music Video

Tease photos from the “Starstrukk” remake video leaked to the Internet well over a month ago. Since then anxious fans have been scouring the web for any sign of the release date.

The music video has finally been released, but it’s hard to see what took producers so long to put together this fantasy trash.

Admitting an affinity for either of these pop duds isn’t usually polite in mixed company, but I will say that I was a little too eager to see this video.  And to redeem myself, I’ll admit I was a little disappointed.

Katy Perry looked gorgeous, as usual, and those boys of 3OH!3  have always sported their own brand of sexy.  But to state the obvious, this train-wreck collision of Katy Perry and 3OH!3 embodies everything that’s wrong with popular culture today.

MetricBest Song: “Gimme Sympathy” by Metric

“Gimme Sypmathy” has a chill pop feel and while the lyrics are thoughtful, the song is definitely one to lift the spirit.

Metric is a Canadian band popular in indie-rock crowds; new fans will love them for Emily Haines strong female vocals and the band’s electronic harmonies.

The song’s lyrics pose an interesting question, “Who would you rather be/The Beatles or The Rolling Stones?”  But the heartfelt plea in the next few lines is so calming, “Oh seriously/You’re gonna make mistakes you’re young/Come on baby play me something/like here comes the sun.”
The music video for “Gimme Sympathy” is on MTV’s website, as well as Youtube and Metric’s Myspace page.

LOLWorst Song: “LOL (Smiley Face)” by Trey Songz ft. Gucci Mane and Soulja Boy

The last time I heard this song I was five and watching Barney.  I remember the words to “Where is Thumbkin?” a little differently though, and I was sure that that lyrics “I can put it on you/That’s not an issue,” were not in the original.

There has to be something wrong with your career if you’re asking Gucci Mane and Soulja Boy to boost your sales.  Or if you think crooning the lyrics “LOL smiley face/Shorty just text me, say she want to sex me,” will increase your rep as a serious rap artist.  Or if you’re taking cue from children’s songs to increase the likelihood that people will get your song stuck in their heads.

I’ll admit sometimes I find myself accidently humming “LOL smiley face/LOL smiley face.”  The only good thing about this song is that I can quickly change the lyrics to “Run away/Run away,” and avoid any potential embarrassment.
