Rock band Papa Roach released their sixth studio album Metamorphosis last month. The album skyrocketed to number eight on the Billboard Top 200 charts, proving that this is a band with longevity. With ten years as a mainstream rock band in the United States, Papa Roach is known for its infectious lyrics, rhythmic guitars, and driving beats. The band can produce a typical rock song, but it often gives glimpses of a softer side as well. Lead singer Jacoby Shaddix has a strong voice with range that he showcases throughout their albums; Metamorphosis is no different.
Many songs by this band in past albums have been dubbed "anthems." That is what I would call this album's second track. "Change Or Die" is a loud and rowdy song that declares a “battle call” in its lyrics. A strong start to the album, it will get any listener revved up.
The first single off this album is "Lifeline." This song encompasses what really makes this band special. It is a great rock song with some vocal variety and a catchy chorus. It was a good choice to set the tone for the album.
Another notable song on this album is "Had Enough," which is about raising awareness. It is about Shaddix’s frustrations with the world and all the violence in it. Listening to the lyrics will coerce one into contemplating about the world.
For listeners seeking angst, "I Almost Told You That I Loved You" is torment- ridden and bitter. It is also extremely catchy.
Metamorphosis is a good album that is worth a try. After almost ten years on the scene, it is evident that Papa Roach is doing something right.
