www.collider.com Role Models stars Pual Rudd and Seann William Scott (above). Rated R, Running time of 1 hour and 35 minutes. |
If there is one new movie that is a must see, it's Role Models, easily one of the funniest movies I have watched in a very long time. It features Paul Rudd, of Clueless and 40 Year Old Virgin fame and Sean William Scott who one might know Scott as “Stifler” in the American Pie movies. It also features Christopher Mintz-Plasse who is known for his “McLovin” character in Superbad.
The pairing of Rudd and Scott worked out well. They had a great chemistry with one another and made it easy to watch the movie and catch their humor. I suppose you could say its “crude” humor, but it’s nothing that any college student does not say, do, or hear on a regular basis.
This movie is funny from beginning to end. The opening line itself had the entire audience in stitches. It really set the tone for the movie. The premise is that Rudd’s character freaks out and the two break the law and get sentenced to 150 hours of community service in lieu of jail. As crude and humorous as the movie is, it has a good undertone to it.
They each get paired up with a kid in a “Big Brothers” program. The kids add a lot of humor to the movie. The interaction between them and the adults is hilarious as the kids give the adults a run for their money, while opening their minds as well.
The thing I liked most about this movie is that not only did it have me laughing the whole time, but it also showed how something unexpected can turn into something good. The kids they met didn’t have good childhoods or were reclusive or alienated because they were different. The adults showed the kids it was okay to be themselves, and the kids showed the adults what it as like to care and be responsible.
Some movies are worth the theater's prices and some aren’t. Role Models is definitely worth the money. I give this 5 stars.
