If you walked the streets of downtown Springfield, you would see there are many different restaurants to choose from. Out of all of these choices, one restaurant really stands out. The Feed Store is a small, quaint downtown staple, and, at times, you can’t even get in the door. When you walk in The Feed Store, you wait in line and order and they bring the food out to you. The décor of the restaurant has some '70s looking wallpaper with a good amount of seating. It is a really nice place to sit and catch up with someone during a quality lunch. The Feed Store is also on the south plaza of the Old State Capitol so you have a nice view if you’re by the window.
The best part of the feed store is the homemade soup. This is what really draws people in to this restaurant. You can get a variety of different soups from cheese or beef barley to French potato soup. If you can’t decide between the cheese and the French potato, they let you mix the soups. I’ve never been to a restaurant that will do something like that. So you can get the best of both worlds, but only buy one bowl of soup.
There are many other menu items The Feed Store offers. They have great sandwiches that you can get. They have specialty ones, or you can pick what you want. One of my favorite sandwiches is turkey on a croissant. They have the best croissants I’ve ever had. If you do get a sandwich, make sure you get a small soup because you will be plenty full with that. They also have fantastic salads and deserts to die for.
If you’re looking for somewhere new and unique to have lunch, I highly recommend The Feed Store. They do have limited hours, but it’s worth it to make the trip. During lunchtime, there is a line out the door full of state workers, city employees, and the many people who work downtown. I would suggest going close to when they open or after the lunch rush so you can sit down and enjoy yourself. You can always take your orders to go as well. The pricing is good, You can get a large bowl of soup and a drink for around $6 or $7 and be full all day long. You can find The Feed Store at 516 East Adams and they are open Monday through Saturday from to 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
