Campus Rec Sports Briefs

Summer 2006 Informal Open Recreation Hours for the Rec Center (Fitness Center, Gym, and Multipurpose Room SLB22) are Monday-Friday, 10am-8pm; Saturday, 10am-2pm; and Sunday, 4-8pm.  These hours are subject to change during campus vacation periods or scheduled events.  Participants wishing to use the above facilities must submit a valid UIS i-card upon entering the Rec Center.

Rec Center membership is required to use the UIS campus recreational facilities.  UIS students are members if they have a valid i-card registered for Summer Term 2006 classes and assessed the Activity Fee and the Recreational Gym Facility Fee.  (Degree-seeking on-line students are the exception and must purchase a membership in order to use the facilities).  UIS Students who were registered for Spring Term 2006 but are not registered for this Summer Term and wish to use the recreational facilities are eligible to purchase a summer term membership as Previous Term Students.  UIS faculty and staff employees will need to renew or purchase a current membership for the summer.  Application for summer membership runs through July 30, 2006. The summer term membership fee is $28 for an adult and $22 for youth (14-17 yrs).   Additional information is available on the website or is posted in the Rec Center.   The recreational facilities will be closed Monday through Sunday, July 31-August 6 for our annual cleaning and maintenance period.

Bodywork in the Summer is being offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:10-12:50pm in the UIS Gym.  This fitness and instructional class taught by Amy Giles includes a combination of cardio and weight training exercises that contribute to cardiovascular health, muscular strength and endurance, balance, and flexibility.  Circuit training, floor exercises, and hand weights are critical components of the class.  Class will also be going outdoors for exercise.  Participants who must be at least 18 years old or a UIS student should come dressed in workout clothes and wearing gym shoes.   Registration takes place at the Campus Recreational Sports Office.  Complete a registration form, submit payment (cash or check only), and a valid i-card before participating.  UIS Students and Rec Center Members with a valid i-card pay $14.  UIS Community Non-Rec Center Members and Non-UIS pay $43.  Non-UIS participants must also sign a waiver form.  The class runs until July 26.  There is no class on Monday, July 3.

The annual summer 18 hole Golf Outing is coming in mid-July!  Watch campus e-mails or check the website for more information coming in early June.
