The Spring Music Showcase will make a summer appearance, with the UIS chorus, Band, Chamber Orchestra and World Percussion Ensemble to play again at the Student Theater. The high stepping Irish group Riverdance is coming to the Sangamon Auditorium this summer. The Broadway show arrives in Springfield on Tuesday and will make another appearance on Wednesday, June 14. Both shows start at 7:30 p.m. Cost of admission ranges from $49/44/39, but UIS student status promises 25% off the original price. Downtown is where it’s at this 4th of July, and days to follow. Tuesday begins the five-day Capital City Celebration in Springfield, with fireworks and music at the heart of the city. The celebration ends with the “Taste of Downtown” on July 8 – other events will fill the rest of the week as announced. The cost is free and open to everyone.

Cow chip hurling is here again! The Chatham Sweetcorn Festival begins at 5 p.m. on Friday and at 11 a.m. on Saturday, and ends at midnight both days. Music, food, games and the Tour de Corn bike race are some events to look forward to at this famous Midwest fair. And it’s free.
