Friday
The Division of Student Affairs at UIS is sponsoring a Foreign and Independent Film Series at 7 p.m. Friday nights in Brookens Auditorium this spring. Admission is free.
This week’s film is “The Return.” Other films in the series are “The Chorus,” Feb. 24; “The Real Dirt on Farmer John,” March 3; “Everything Is Illuminated,” March 10; “City of God,” March 17; “Bride and Prejudice,” March 31; “Keys to the House,” April 7; “The Assassination of Richard Nixon,” April 14 and “Tibet: Cry of the Snow Lion,” April 21.

The American Civil Liberties Union and the Sangamon County Clerk’s Office will sponsor a session on how to work the new electronic voting machines before the March primaries from noon-6 p.m. at the main branch of the Lincoln Library, 326 S. Seventh St. in Springfield. A deputy registrar will also be available to register eligible voters. Bring two forms of ID. Call (217) 753-6740 for questions about ID.

Friday and Feb. 24

Saturday
The Women’s Issues Caucus will host a production of Eve Ensler’s “The Vagina Monologues” at 8 p.m. Saturday in the Studio Theatre in the PAC. A pre-show reception, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the PAC Restaurant, will honor local women for their efforts to end violence against women. Tickets are $25 for the general public, $12.50 for UIS students and $18 for all other students. Proceeds go to the Women’s Issues Caucus, Sojourn Shelter and the Prairie Center Against Sexual Assault. Sunday-Tuesday
Auditions for the UIS Theater Dept.’s spring production “Hedda Gabler,” by Henrik Ibsen, will take place from 7-10 p.m. Feb. 19-21 in the Studio Theater in the PAC. For more information, visit www.uis.edu/theatre

Feb. 22
The UI Alumni Association will sponsor “A Taste of UIS: Distinguished Faculty/Alumni Lunchtime Lectures” again this spring from noon-1:15 p.m. at Maldaner’s Upstairs, 222 S. Sixth St., Springfield. The lectures are open to the public but reservations are required. The lecture series kicks off Feb. 22 with a presentation by Bill Wheelhouse, general manager of WUIS, and Ron Michaelson, adjunct professor. The cost includes lunch and is $20/person or $15 for Alumni Association members and their guests.
