Tomorrow A book signing and reception for Marcellus Leonard, associate professor of English and author of “Shake the Thunder Down,” will be from 5-8 p.m. Sept. 22 in the MacDonald Lounge on the lower level of Brookens Library. The event is free and open to the public. “Shake the Thunder Down” is published by Daybreak Press, the poetry imprint of Pitch-Black, LLC.
UI President B. Joseph White will be inaugurated as the 16 th president of the University of Illinois at 2 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Krannert Center on the UIUC campus. Any UIS student interested in attending the ceremony should contact Joan Sestak at 6-7794. A charter bus will leave campus around 10 a.m. and return around 7 p.m. For those unable to attend the ceremony, a satellite feed will be shown in Brookens Auditorium starting at 2 p.m. The ceremony will be hosted by the Board of Trustees, the Alumni Association and the U of I Foundation

This year's guest speaker will be John Lowder, UIS alum and director of research for the Illinois House of Representatives. Sunday All members of the UIS community are invited to participate in the “Paint the Bench Expo.” Proposed sketches must be submitted with the application before Sept. 25 with approvals being granted on a first come, first served basis. There are 21 benches available. The top three winners will be announced at the Parrothead Tribute and Tailgate Party at 5 p.m. Oct. 1. Ongoing The Division of Student Affairs at UIS is sponsoring a Foreign and Independent Film Series at 7 p.m. Friday nights this fall in Brookens Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public. The Visual Arts Gallery will open its 2005 fall season with “Routeless: New Work by Leslie Stalter,” on display through Sept. 29. The Visual Arts Gallery is in room 201 of the Health and Sciences Building on the UIS campus. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The UIS Women's Center, along with UIS Campus Police, will present free Rape Aggression Defense classes for women.
