The Center for Teaching and Learning will sponsor a series of computer workshops in Office 2003 and Windows XP. Intermediate Access 2 will be from 1-3 p.m. Nov. 16 in BSB 108. Workshops are open to all faculty, staff and students. E-mail ctlcomputer@uis.edu to register.
The Percussion Club will meet today from 4:15-6 p.m. in HSB 214. Learn to play the drums; no experience necessary.
UIS will present "The Parana River Floodplain and Conservation: Sustaining Biodiversity in Brazil ," a lecture by Dr. Sidinei Thomaz from Maringa State University , Brazil , from 5-6:30 p.m. Nov. 16 in PAC F. The lecture is sponsored by the UIS Speaker's Awards Committee and the Emiquon Field Station, dedicated to preserving 7,000 acres of Illinois River floodplain to its pre-Civil War state. The Art Students League of UIS is pleased to announce its first Juried Exhibition, on view from Nov. 17 through Jan. 27, featuring work by current and former UIS students. A free public reception and awards ceremony will by from 5-8 p.m. Nov. 17 in the CPV lobby. All artists, their families and friends are encouraged to attend.

The UIS Career Development Center will host "Recruiting Trends: Information About the Ever-Changing Needs of a Shifting Job Market," a teleconference presentation by Dr. Phil Gardner, director, College Employment Research Institute at Michigan State University, from 9 a.m.- noon in UHB 2008. The UIS Fall Music Showcase, featuring performances by the UIS Band, UIS Chorus, UIS Chamber Ensemble and UIS World Percussion Ensemble, will begin at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the Studio Theatre. Tickets are $5, available at the Sangamon Box Office and at the door. All proceeds go towards the UIS Student Merit Award and the UIS Music Enrichment Program.
Nov. 28 "Degrees of Lucky," a one-act play written by Judith Schlessinger Dyer, will be presented for the first time at a reading at 7 p.m. Nov. 28 in the Studio Theatre. Under the direction of Missy Thibodeaux-Thompson, the reading will be performed by four local actors. The reading is meant to celebrate the spirit of Schlessinger Dyer's life, who died of breast cancer Nov. 6. Because of some graphic sexual dialogue, it is recommended for mature audiences only. Ongoing The Division of Student Affairs at UIS is sponsoring a Foreign and Independent Film Series at 7 p.m. Friday nights this fall in Brookens Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public. Films to be shown include: "March of the Penguins," Nov. 18.
"Digital Environments," works by visual arts chair Michael Miller, will be on display in the Visual Arts Gallery through Nov. 23. The Visual Arts Gallery is located in room 201 of the Health and Sciences Building on the UIS campus. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
