UIS foreign and independent film series
The Division of Student Affairs at UIS is sponsoring an Independent and Foreign Film Series on Friday nights this spring. All films will begin at 7 p.m. in Brookens Auditorium. Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.
Films include: Dogville – March 4; The Corporation - March 25; I’m Going Home – April 1; Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring – April 8; Bride and Prejudice – April 15; Motorcycle Diaries – April 22.

The Vagina Monologues to be presented at UIS
The Women’s Issues Caucus at UIS will host a production of Eve Ensler’s award-winning play “The Vagina Monologues” at 8 p.m., Saturday, March 5, in the Studio Theatre.
The event is presented as part of the V-Day 2005 Worldwide/College Campaign, a global movement designed to raise money and awareness for organizations that work to stop violence against women and girls.
The audience is invited to attend a pre-show discussion with cast members and a reception following the performance.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at Sangamon Auditorium Ticket Office. Cost is $25 for the general public. Student tickets are $11.25 (UIS), $11 (Lincoln Land Community College), $10 (SIU School of Medicine) and $15 (all other students). UIS to offer “Music and Computers” workshop
The music program at UIS will host a six-week workshop on computer music applications that is open to all musicians in the community. The workshops are scheduled to run from Feb. 9 - March 16. Meeting times are Wednesdays from 6 until 9 p.m. in room 208 of the Health and Sciences Building.
Area jazz musician and songwriter Brian Pryor will lead the workshop, which will focus on some of the new plug and play MIDI (musical instrument digital interface) and audio software.

“Merge” is next exhibit at UIS Visual Arts Gallery
Photographers Bea Nettles and Fern Logan will display their works in the joint exhibit "Merge," Feb. 14 - March 10.
An Artists’ program and reception Thursday, March 3 will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will feature talks by the artists, a performance by faculty member and poet Marcellus Leonard, and a song by UIS alumna Denise Yates. The program, reception, and exhibit are located in the Visual Arts Gallery and are free and open to the public.
The exhibit is presented in conjunction with Black History Month and Women’s Heritage Month.

Taste of UIS
On Wednesday, March 23, Margot Duley, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, will speak on “International Women’s Movements a Century Ago: Buried History, Repeated History,” at Maldaner’s Upstairs, 222 South Sixth St., Springfield.

The final program of the Taste of UIS series, on Tuesday, April 26, will feature UIS alumna and assistant professor of English Barbara Burkhardt discussing her new book, William Maxwell: A Literary Life.
Each program includes a buffet lunch. Cost for each is $18 per person, $13 for Alumni Association members and their guests.

Help wanted: Students to coordinate a state-wide student lobby day
UIS students are needed to help coordinate all aspects of the Lobby Day which will bring students from colleges and universities all over the state to lobby their representatives and April 11.
Lobby Day is funded and supported by the Office of Student Volunteers and Service Learning, Illinois Issues, UIS Student Government Association, the McCormick-Tribune Foundation and Illinois Campus Compact.

Celebration dinner and silent auction
Christian Student Fellowship at UIS invites the campus community to attend their annual Celebration Dinner and Silent Auction Friday, March 4th at 6:30pm at the Rochester Christian Church.
The evening includes a meal, silent auction, student and alumni testimonies, entertainment, and more.
Proceeds from an offering and the silent auction will go to help 15 students who will be participating in summer mission trips to Russia and China. It is free to attend, but please RSVP to gretchen@uiscsf.org or 498-7749.

Registered to vote?
City Wide Elections will be held April 5, 2005. If you are not registered to vote in Sangamon County and would like to participate in this election please register to vote by March 8, 2005.
Go to the Sangamon County Building on 9th Street or make arrangements with Jan Droegkamp in University Hall 3028 to register. You will need two forms of ID with at least one showing your current address. Acceptable forms of ID include bills, letters, driver's licenses, etc.

UIS to present workshop on death, grief, and loss
A workshop on “Death, Grief, and Loss” will be presented from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 7, in conference room H of the PAC at UIS.
The program is free and open to the public. Dr. Carolyn A. Peck, assistant professor of Human Services-Gerontology at UIS, will lead the workshop.
Sponsors of this workshop are UIS’ Human Services program and Counseling Center.

UIS sponsors annual Alumni in Government Breakfast
The University of Illinois Alumni Association at UIS will sponsor its annual Alumni in Government Breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, at the Executive Mansion, 410 E. Jackson in downtown Springfield.
Cost is $21 per person, $16 per person for current UIS students and UIAA members and their guests. Reservations are required and must be made by March 1.
