UIS foreign and independent film series
The Division of Student Affairs at UIS is sponsoring an Independent and Foreign Film Series on Friday nights this spring. All films will begin at 7 p.m. in Brookens Auditorium. Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.
Films include: Goodbye Lenin - Jan.28; The Saddest Music in the World - Feb. 4; Shall We Dance? - Feb. 11; The Holy Land - Feb. 17 and 18; Osama - Feb. 25; Dogville - March 4; The Corporation - March 25; I'm Going Home - April 1; Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring - April 8; Bride and Prejudice - April 15; Motorcycle Diaries - April 22.

"Eight Board Feet" next at UIS Visual Arts Gallery
"Eight Board Feet," an exhibit of paintings by Marina Mangubi, will be on display from Jan. 13 through Feb. 10 at the Visual Arts Gallery at UIS.
The exhibit is free and open to the public.
The Visual Arts Gallery is located in room 201 of the Health and Sciences Building on the UIS campus. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

RAD Training for spring
The four session Rape Aggression Defense course will be offered for free to female students, faculty and staff at UIS.
The sessions will last for about three hours and are scheduled on Tuesdays in February beginning at 5:30 p.m. Sergeant Mike Stuart and Officer Amanda Parris of the UIS police will lead the training sessions.

Don't forget to purchase your parking decal for the Spring semester!
Parking decals are on sale now at the Cashier Office, PAC 184. The decals currently on sale cost $24 and are good through Aug. 31, 2005 . The deadline to display your decal is Friday, Jan. 28.
2005-2006 RA Selection information
Application packets will be available Monday, Jan. 24 for those interested in being an RA. All areas of Housing need to be staffed for the 2005-2006 academic year. Deadline for application is Feb. 23, 2005 .
If you are interested but unsure, there will be four information sessions open to residents in all areas. These sessions are scheduled as follows: Jan. 24 in LRH at 5 p.m. , Jan. 26 in HCOM at 5 p.m. , Jan. 28 in LRH at 5 p.m. and Jan. 30 in P20 at 5 p.m.

Career fair count down
Beginning Jan. 24 Career Services will present five weeks of informational displays to prepare the campus community for the Feb. 25 career fair. The displays will be located in the lower PAC and will change each week.
Handouts will be available at the displays.

University Scholars Lecture will address "The New World of Asia "
Dr. Antoinette Burton, professor of History at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will speak on "The New World of Asia: Images of Cold War Cosmopolitanism in Holiday Magazine," at noon on Friday, Jan. 28, in conference room G of the PAC. The program is free and open to the public.
Burton 's presentation is part of the University Scholars Lecture Series, underwritten by the U of I and featuring presentations by recipients of the University of Illinois Scholars Award from all three U of I campuses.
The Vagina Monologues to be presented at UIS
The Women's Issues Caucus at UIS will host a production of Eve Ensler's award-winning play "The Vagina Monologues" at 8 p.m. , Saturday, March 5, in the Studio Theatre.
The event is presented as part of the V-Day 2005 Worldwide/College Campaign, a global movement designed to raise money and awareness for organizations that work to stop violence against women and girls.
The audience is invited to attend a pre-show discussion with cast members and a reception following the performance.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at Sangamon Auditorium Ticket Office. Cost is $25 for the general public. Student tickets are $11.25 (UIS), $11 ( Lincoln Land Community College ), $10 (SIU School of Medicine) and $15 (all other students). UIS to offer "Music and Computers" workshop
The music program at UIS will host a six-week workshop on computer music applications that is open to all musicians in the community. The workshops are scheduled to run from Feb. 9 - March 16. Meeting times are Wednesdays from 6 until 9 p.m. in room 208 of the Health and Sciences Building .
Area jazz musician and songwriter Brian Pryor will lead the workshop, which will focus on some of the new plug and play MIDI (musical instrument digital interface) and audio software.
