Every
year, UIS hosts an Employee of the Year recognition ceremony to honor
a notable employee. This year, Jim Kasper, an electrician working in physical
planning and operations, has been given the honor of being named the university’s
22nd Employee of the Year. The honor was announced at the recognition
ceremony, held on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005.
Kasper said he was very surprised and honored to receive such an honor.
With only four years of employment at UIS, Kasper has already been chosen
Employee of the Month for March and now adds Employee of the Year to his
list of accomplishments.
In the selection process, the university looks among its previous Employees
of the Month for the year. Kasper said he was privileged to be named among
the other Employees of the Month, as other employees eligible for the
honor have been at UIS longer than he.
The Employee of the Year honor was a complete surprise to Kasper. He said
that when he comes to work everyday he tries "to perform to the best
of my abilities, that’s all that could be hoped for." Though
it was unknown to Kasper exactly what prizes he would receive, he knew
about the $500 check the university would issue him and was eager to learn
of the other prizes during the weekend.
Kasper, as an Employee of the Month, received a $50 gift certificate and
a reserved parking space. However, the Employee of the Year award surpasses
that. According to sources, Kasper will not only receive a $500 check
from the university, but he will also receive a parking decal good for
one year and a reserved parking space for a year.
