UIS foreign and independent film series
The Division of Student Affairs at UIS is sponsoring an Independent and Foreign Film Series on Friday nights this spring. All films will begin at 7 p.m. in Brookens Auditorium. Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.
Films include: Osama – Feb. 25; Dogville – March 4; The Corporation - March 25; I’m Going Home – April 1; Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring – April 8; Bride and Prejudice – April 15; Motorcycle Diaries – April 22.

Career fair count down
Career Services will present the final informational display to prepare the campus community for the Feb. 25 career fair, “What to do after the Career Fair,” this week. The display is located in the lower PAC.
Handouts will be available at the display.

The Vagina Monologues to be presented at UIS
The Women’s Issues Caucus at UIS will host a production of Eve Ensler’s award-winning play “The Vagina Monologues” at 8 p.m., Saturday, March 5, in the Studio Theatre.
The event is presented as part of the V-Day 2005 Worldwide/College Campaign, a global movement designed to raise money and awareness for organizations that work to stop violence against women and girls.
The audience is invited to attend a pre-show discussion with cast members and a reception following the performance.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at Sangamon Auditorium Ticket Office. Cost is $25 for the general public. Student tickets are $11.25 (UIS), $11 (Lincoln Land Community College), $10 (SIU School of Medicine) and $15 (all other students). UIAA Collegiate membership program
Join the alumni association for a free career program that is available for all UIS students, alumni, faculty and staff on Thursday, Feb. Feb 24, 2005.
Julie Hays from the University of Illinois Alumni Association’s Career Center in Chicago will be presenting a free workshop, “Comprehensive Job Search Strategies” from 4:45 – 5:45 p.m. in the PAC, conference room C. She will include tips on how to get the most out of a job fair.
The UIS Career Center job fair will be Friday, Feb. 25 in the PAC.

UIS to present Black and Gay Film Series
Students against Sexual Stereotypes and Inequality, in conjunction with the course Sexual Orientation and Public Policy, will sponsor a Black and Gay Film Series, Thursdays in February. All films will be shown at noon in conference room E of the PAC. The films are free and open to the public.
The series is presented in observance of Black History Month and explores the lives of gay and lesbian African-Americans. A question-and-answer session will follow each film.
Films to be presented include Living with Pride: Ruth Ellis at 100 on Feb. 17 and Brother Outsider: The Life of Bayard Rustin on Feb. 24.

“Merge” is next exhibit at UIS Visual Arts Gallery
Photographers Bea Nettles and Fern Logan will display their works in the joint exhibit "Merge," Feb. 14 - March 10.
An Artists’ program and reception Thursday, March 3 will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will feature talks by the artists, a performance by faculty member and poet Marcellus Leonard, and a song by UIS alumna Denise Yates. The program, reception, and exhibit are located in the Visual Arts Gallery and are free and open to the public.
The exhibit is presented in conjunction with Black History Month and Women’s Heritage Month.

Students needed to coordinate a state-wide student lobby day
UIS students are needed to help coordinate all aspects of a state-wide Lobby Day which will bring students from colleges and universities all over the state to lobby their representatives on April 11.
Lobby Day is funded and supported by the Office of Student Volunteers and Service Learning, Illinois Issues, UIS Student Government Association, the McCormick-Tribune Foundation and Illinois Campus Compact.

UIS sponsors annual Alumni in Government Breakfast
The University of Illinois Alumni Association at UIS will sponsor its annual Alumni in Government Breakfast from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 8, at the Executive Mansion, 410 E. Jackson in downtown Springfield.
The event is for alumni whose employment relates to government, as well as for those who are interested in government or in UIS.
Cost is $21 per person, $16 per person for current UIS students and UIAA members and their guests. Reservations are required and must be made by March 1.

Tax forms available in the library
The most frequently used federal and Illinois tax forms are available in Brookens Library on level 2 near the print stations.
Paper forms, instruction booklets and reproducible copies of less common forms are available.
Forms can also be accessed via the Internet at www.irs.gov/formspub for Federal documents or www.iltax.com for state documents.

Expanding Your Horizons conference focuses on careers for girls
“Expanding Your Horizons in Math, Science, and Technology,” a hands-on conference designed for girls in sixth, seventh, and eighth grades, will be presented from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 12, in the Public Affairs Center at UIS.
The conference is presented by the American Association of University Women, Springfield Branch, and is sponsored by UIS and The Children’s Center, Memorial Behavioral Health Group.
Workshops will also be available for parents and educators that will enable them to help their daughters and students make informed decisions as they approach college.
Advance registration is required and must be postmarked no later than March 5. Cost is $10 for those who register before March 1 and $15 thereafter. Some scholarships are available.
