UIS Spring foreign and independent film series

Student Life is sponsoring an Independent and Foreign Film Series on Friday nights this spring. All films will begin at 7 p.m. in Brookens Auditorium.  Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend.  The next showing will be April 16 – Dirty Pretty Things.  For more information or a schedule, contact the UIS Office of Student Life at 206-6665.

 

UIS Theatre Production

HAY FEVER by Noel Coward and directed by Eric Thibodeaux-Thompson, will continue showing April 15th, April 16th, April 17th, and April 18th.  All Show Times are at 8:00pm; except the final performance on Sunday, which will be at 2:00pm. Tickets are $10 General Admission; $6 UIS Faculty/Staff; and $4 Current UIS Students w/I card.  Purchase tickets by calling the UIS Bursar's Office at 206-6738 or at the studio theatre door, 1 hour prior to curtain time.  All performances will occur in the Studio Theatre.  For more information, contact Eric Thibodeaux-Thompson, Assistant Professor and Director of Theatre, at 206-6613

 

UIS Women’s Center to present “Images of Women in Iran
The Women’s Center will present the photographic exhibit “Images of Women in
Iran” by Azita Ziaei through Friday, April 16, in the MacDonald Lounge, located in Brookens Library.  For more information, call the center at 206-7173.   

UIS participates in Earth Week

The Department of Environmental Studies will host 2 events in observance of Earth Week that focus on the theme “The Greening of Public Institutions.” At 7 p.m. April 20, Kevin Greene, program manager of the Office of Pollution Prevention, Illinois EPA, will speak on “Greening Public Facilities.” At 7 p.m. April 21, Jack Barnette, environmental scientist/indoor air specialist with the U.S. EPA Region 5, will present “Indoor Air Quality in Green and Sustainable Buildings: What You Need to Know to Get Started.” All events are free and open to the public and will be held in Brookens Auditorium.  For more information contact Darlene Powell, Environmental Studies graduate assistant, at 206-7874.


Fourth Annual UIS Science Research Symposium to feature evolutionary geneticist

Dr. Rob DeSalle, curator at the American Museum of Natural History, New York, will present  “The Utility of Evolutionary Thinking in Making Sense of Biomolecules and Biomaterials,” is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Fourth Annual UIS Science Research Symposium, to be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, April 23, in Brookens Auditorium.  Undergraduate, graduate students, and faculty in science programs at UIS and colleges will give presentations on the 2nd floor of HSB.  Awards will be given for best student presentations.  The entire symposium is free and open to the public. Seminar examines “Women in Islam”

The Muslim Student Association will host a seminar on “Women in Islam” from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 17, in the LRH Great Room. The program is free and open to the public.  Speakers will be Layla Assem, whose topic will be “Why Western Women are Choosing Islam,” and Aisha Sobh, who will address “The Strength of the Feminine in Islam.” Following the presentations and a question-and-answer session, dinner featuring authentic Middle Eastern dishes will be served to all participants.  For more information, contact MSA president Fareed Ismail at 206-1012.

 

UIS/LLCC event will observe National Volunteer Week 2004

The Office of Student Volunteers and Service Learning at UIS and the Community Volunteer Center at LLCC will co-sponsor a Volunteer Recognition program from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 22, in the Atrium Lounge of UIS’ PAC. Ethics in the Workplace Workshop

“Ethics in the Workplace” is a new workshop that has been scheduled for June 14, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Conference Room C/D of PAC.
