sharing a printer - Windows 2000, XP, 98/95

Windows 2000

1. Open “My Computer”.

2. Double click on “Control Panel”.

3. Double click on the printers icon.

4. Pick the printer you wish to share and right click on it.

5. Click on sharing in the menu which comes up.

6. Give the share a name or accept the default name suggested.

7. Click on "Apply".

In order to restrict who may use your printer:
1. Click on the Security tab in the window.

2. Highlight "everyone" and click on remove.

3. Click on "Add" and pick the NetIDs of the people who may print to your printer. To pick the NetID, double click on it.

4. Click ok.

 

Windows XP

1. Open "My Computer".

2. Double click on "Control Panel".

3. Double click on the printers icon.

4. Pick the printer you wish to share and right click on it.

5. Click on sharing in the menu which comes up.

6. Give the share a name or accept the default name suggested.

7. Click on "Apply".

4. Click on add, to add the netids of the people who may print to your printer

5. Click on "OK".
