Podcasts, Hybrid Courses and Meeting Student Needs
Leonard Bogle
Assistant Professor, EDL
Abstract:
The how to and why of the creation of these types of instruction and their efficacy for adult learners will be presented. The decisions for the creation of these delivery systems will be presented as a guide for those considering either option for their courses.
Content:
This presentation will look at the creation of Podcasts that enhance student learning by providing a portable auditory learning alternative system for adult students and their active life style. The creation and recording of the script will be addressed as well as the effectiveness of this type of delivery of instruction for adult learners. In addition, the creation of hybrid classes to better meet the time and distance limitations of students while providing necessary face-to-face instruction where laboratories are a necessity will be discussed. The process of determining the material to be presented on-line and on-campus, the methodology used to connect the two and the relationship of these activities to the constructivist theory of instruction as it relates to adult learning will be the focus.
