Orientation and Registration of New International Students and Exchange Visitors
All new F-1 Students and J-1 Exchange Visitors at UIS are invited and expected to attend International Student Orientation at the beginning of your first semester of study. You will be provided with an International Student Handbook containing much valuable information regarding Campus Connections, Money and Banking, Campus Regulations, Academics, Housing, Special Services, Traveling Tips, Personal Transportation, Immigration Regulations, Cultural Differences, etc. You will also meet the UIS International Staff and other School Officials important to your success as a UIS student or exchange visitor.
As part of the Orientation program, you will also receive assistance with many of the activities (above) about which you have received information. If it is impossible for you to attend International Orientation, you may have difficulty learning about and doing all these things on your own.
Following the International Orientation, you will register for your classes. Prior to or immediately following International Orientation, you must complete an additional registration with a Designated School Official (F-1) or Responsible Officer (J-1) so that your SEVIS record can be updated. This step is required in order for you to maintain your status, and failure to complete this step will result in the loss of your status and possible deportation. Do not forget this final step.
