International Orientation and Check-In
Confirm your attendance – Do you plan to attend UIS? Please use the following link to confirm your attendance and request transportation services from the Springfield, Illinois airport or train station to UIS: Confirm Attendance Spring 2017.
Campus Housing – If you plan to live on campus, you must Apply for Housing. You may be allowed to move-in early, but you must submit an Early Arrival Request prior to December 16, 2016. The Early Arrival Request allows new international students to move-in January 8th, in order to attend the mandatory Check-In and Orientation. You should apply for housing and complete the Early Arrival Request as soon as possible (you do not have to be admitted OR have your visa approved to apply). The Office of International Student Services will cover the early arrival fee ONLY if you confirm prior to December 16, 2016. If you confirm after this date, the fee will be your responsibility.
Travel and Accommodations – If you do not confirm early arrival with housing OR you arrive prior to January 8th, you will need to stay at a hotel. The following link provides hotel information for you and family members, and will also assist you in navigating through your arrival process: Travel and Accommodations
Please view the Campus Maps to familiarize yourself with the campus. Driving directions to the campus, maps of each building, parking, and more are available on this site.
New international student Check-In takes place on Monday, January 9, 2017. There are NO EXCEPTIONS. Students MUST report to UIS that day. Check-In will be held in HSB (Health Sciences Building) Room 109 from 9:00am-4:00pm.
All new international students must Check-In. You will need to bring copies of the following documents to Check-In:
- Form I-20
- Check-In Form
- Passport and F-1 visa
- Form I-94 (this is your Arrival/Departure record and can be printed AFTER you arrive in the U.S.)
- yellow immunization booklet or completed immunization forms signed by your doctor. The immunization form can be found here – Required Immunization Form
We are unable to print copies of your I-94, passport, and visa and you must bring a copy with you to Check-In. If you fail to complete the Check-In process with ISS, you will not be allowed to attend the New International Student Orientation.
Orientation is MANDATORY for all new students. New International Student Orientations will take place on Tuesday, January 10 and Wednesday, January 11, 2017. You will be given an Orientation Ticket at Check-In with the location and time of your orientation.
Important: You WILL NOT be able to register for future classes (Fall 2017 semester) or add/drop classes until you have attended orientation and complete the Check-In process. Orientation is mandated by the U.S. government and attendance is mandatory even if you transferred from another university. All new international students will be charged a mandatory International Orientation Fee of $175.
At orientation you will receive the Orientation Guidebook for New International Students. You may want to review this prior to orientation, but we will provide you with a printed copy at Orientation.
