
Prior to coming to UIS in January, 2008, Rick worked for 9 years as the Coordinator of International Student Enrollment and PDSO at Carson-Newman College in Tennessee. While there, he also taught as an adjunct instructor in both the Religion and Foreign Language Departments, represented his state on the NAFSA: Association of International Educators Region VII leadership team, served as State Advocate for the Tennessee Association of International Educators, and participated as a Mentor in the 2004-2006 NAFSA Academy. Rick is currently a member of the leadership team of International Educators of Illinois on which he serves as the Recruiting, Admissions, and Preparation representative, and the NAFSA Trainer Corps for which he presents workshops on F-1 regulations at both the beginners and advanced levels and on International Admissions. Rick is the NAFSA Academy Coach for Region V. Rick is also co-owner/moderator of Inter-L, a listserve / website for international educators.
Prior to entering his second career in international education, Rick served overseas as a consultant with a religious organization for 15 years—10 in Spain and 5 in Costa Rica—working with university student ministries.
In his spare time Rick enjoys gardening, photography, cycling, genealogy, and making music.
