ANCIENT PERÚ SPANISH IMMERSION

June 6 – June 23, 2009 (17 days)

Program Overview

Base Program Includes:

• Round-trip Flight Lima -Cusco
• 2 nights in Students residence in Cusco
• 6 overnight stays with host family housing
• 4 nights in Taray School
• 2 nights on Excursions (Machu Pichu and Titicaca)
• Three meals per day (not offered during excursions)
• 28 hours of Spanish immersion at the intermediate level
• 8 sightseeing cultural and historic tours led by licensed local guides –in Spanish
• 10 visits to academic/learning sites
• 4 walking tour on Cusco, Machu Pichu, Ollantaytambo, Puno/Titicaca

PROGRAM FEE (exclusive of UIS tuition and university fees): approximately $2200 depending upon the final number of participants. Fee includes international airfare from Chicago, internal travel in Peru, excursions, most meals, lodging, Spanish language classes and special lectures.
DRAFT ITINERARY

Saturday June 6th 2009:
Departure from the States
Arrival to Lima
Transfer to hotel (**), overnight in Lima

Sunday June 7th:
Breakfast, transfer to the airport, flight to Cusco.
Welcome in Cusco, transfer to guest families.
16:00 Welcome Reception at the school & Walking tour in the city center.

Monday June 8th:
8:00 Placement test
8:30 – 12:30 Spanish group classes
12:30 – 13:30 Lunch
13:30 – 6:30 Cusco City Tour
6:45 Lecture about Ruins in Cusco
8:00 Welcome dinner

Tuesday June 9th:
8:30 – 12:30 Spanish Classes,
12:30 Orientation meeting about the Sacred Valley & more Programs
1:30-2:30 Lunch
2:30-6:45 Free Time (Visit the local market)
6:45 Lecture Peruvian culture.

Wednesday June 10th:
8:30 – 12:30 Spanish Classes,
12:30 visit to a clinic for mentally & physically disabled children
1:30-2:30 Lunch
2:30-6:45 Free time
6:45 interactive music class at the school

Thursday June 11th
Excursion to the Sacred Valley of the Incas

Friday June 12 th:
River Rafting

Saturday 13th
2 day tour to Machu Picchu with overnight in Aguas Calientes

Sunday 14th
Machu Picchu; transfer from Ollantaytambo to the school in Taray.

Monday June 15th:
8:00 – 12:00 Spanish Classes
12:00 lunch
13:00 – 16:00 time off to explore the surroundings and the village of Pisac
16:00 – 20:00 free time
20:00 dinner

Tuesday June 16th:
8:00 – 12:00 Spanish Classes
12:00 lunch
13:00 – 16:00 Excursion to the Salt Mines of Maras
16:00 – 20:00 free time
20:00 dinner
21:00 bonfire

Wednesday June 17th:
8:00 – 12:00 Spanish Classes
12:00 lunch
13:00 – 17:00 free time
17:00 Cooking or Salsa Class
18:00 Dinner
19:00 Transfer to Cusco to take the night bus to Puno

Thursday, June 18th/ Friday, June 19t/h Saturday 20th
8:00 – 12:00 Spanish Classes
12:00 lunch
13:00 – 17:00 free time, or: Excursion to Ollantaytambo
18:00 Dinner
19:00 Transfer to Cusco to take the night bus to Puno

Friday & Saturday
Bus to Cusco, nightbus to Lake Titicaca & the Floating Island of URUS, overnight stay in on the islands. Friday: bus back to Cusco, back to accommodations (students residence) at 6.00 a.m. Sunday morning!

Sunday 21st
Rest and free time

Monday June 22nd:
Excursion to the bridge of Qeswachaka

Tuesday June 23rdth:
Departure back to Lima and to the States
