Prepare for College

What should you do to prepare for college?

Senior Year

  • Take a last look at your choice colleges: visit classes, talk to profs, deans and coaches, and chat with students.

  • If you haven’t done it already, take the ACT or SAT. If you have, consider taking it again to improve test scores.

  • Continue searching for scholarships.

  • Begin to narrow your list of prospective colleges.

  • Ask teachers, counselors, pastors or employers to write letters of recommendation.

  • File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1. Turn in high school transcripts and admission applications to UIS by January 15 for priority consideration.

  • After receiving acceptance letters, students should make their selection and meet deadlines for scholarships, registration, housing, and payment.

Summer before entering college

  • Students accepted to UIS should attend one of the university’s Orientations in anticipation of their freshman year.
