Computer Labs

UIS students, faculty, and staff have access to state-of-the-art computing facilities, including our open access computer lab in the University Hall Building [UHB 2000] and the multimedia lab on the first level of Brookens Library, Media Lab [BRK 180). Color and black/white prints may be purchased at these locations using your iCard. The labs are available for use by all current UIS students, staff, faculty.

Printing

UIS students will be allotted $25.00 in printing funds per calendar year. The $25 credit will be added to the student’s Pharos printing account the first time his or her i-card is swiped at a Pharos print station. The $25 credit can only be used for printing services and cannot be used in other areas where i-card payment is accepted. The $25 credit account, which will be displayed at the Pharos station, is labeled UIS Technology Fee. Black and white prints are $.10 per page, and color prints are $.25 per page.

Wireless Printing

Wireless printing is available to any Pharos print station (in the Media Lab, library, UHB 2000, UHB 2025, UHB 2030, PAC 493, PAC concourse, HRB 112, HSB 109, VPA 54, LRH, Office of Disability Services). The Cloud Print options for Android and Windows devices may be used from any location/connection.  For Apple devices using AirPrint, your device must be connected to UISWiFi.

From an Apple device (iPhone, iPad, Mac, MacBook, etc):

  1. Choose AirPrint Pharos_Color_Stations to print to a color printer.
  2. Choose AirPrint Pharos_BW_Stations to print to a black/white printer.

From an Android device (Samsung, HTC, Sony, LG, etc):

  1. Download the free Cloud Print app, if needed
  2. Add the color printer by going to this link on your Android device:  http://go.uis.edu/googlepharoscol
    • You will need to log into Google to add the printer. You can log in with either a personal Google account or your UIS NetID and password.
  3. Add the black/white printer by going to this link on your Android device:  http://go.uis.edu/googlepharosbw
    • You will need to log into Google to add the printer. You can log in with either a personal Google account or your UIS NetID and password.
  4. To print from an app, choose Pharos_BW_Stations to print in black/white.  Choose Pharos_Color_Stations to print in color.

From a Windows device (Windows mobile, Surface tablet, laptop):

  1. Download Google Cloud Printer using the Chrome browser – http://tools.google.com/dlpage/cloudprintdriver
  2. Add the color printer by going to this link on your Windows device:  http://go.uis.edu/googlepharoscol
    • You will need to log into Google to add the printer. You can log in with either a personal Google account or your UIS NetID and password.
  3. Add the black/white printer by going to this link on your Windows device:  http://go.uis.edu/googlepharosbw
    • You will need to log into Google to add the printer. You can log in with either a personal Google account or your UIS NetID and password.
  4. To print, choose Google Cloud Printer. You will need to log into Google, if not already logged in. Choose Pharos_BW_Stations to print in black/white.  Choose Pharos_Color_Stations to print in color.

 

General Access Computer Labs

Computers in both of the General Access Computer Labs are on a 4 year replacement cycle so that we have current equipment available for use.

UHB 2000 [19 workstations]

This is a general access computer lab with 14 PCs with CD-RW/DVD drives, five Apple OS X based computers, and black and white and color laser printers .

Media Lab, BRK 180 [17 workstations]

Media Lab, BRK180

The Multimedia Lab in BRK 180 is a specialized lab of seventeen computer graphics, digital video and audio production. In addition to common software for word processing, spreadsheet, and presentations, you have a variety of computer hardware and software suited for developing almost every type of multimedia project. Equipment such as scanners, CD and DVD burners, digital slide scanners, analog/digital video converters, printers, and TV/DVD/VCR players are available for use. The lab contains a digital editing suite [or eSuite] for audio production, adding voice-overs, and capturing/mixing audio in a studio environment.

Teaching Computer Labs

Computers in the Teaching Computer Labs are on a 4 year replacement cycle so that we are able to provide current equipment to our users.

HSB 109 [52 workstations]

This large teaching computer lab is equipped with two projectors and two LCD screens, allowing students to see what is being projected from any seat. The instructor station has software installed to enable the instructor to view and control other PCs in the lab.

 

HSB 110 [30 workstations]

This flexible classroom is designed for active learning. Five conference style tables, seating six students each, encourage collaborations and discussions. A laptop cart is available in this room so that students have access to computers when needed. Each table has a large LCD screen so that students can display their computer content to share with the group.

UHB 2025 [30 workstations]

This classroom is equipped with 30 PCs with CD-RW/DVD drives, two network video projectors, interactive whiteboard, instructor podium with DVD/VCR player and document camera, and touch panel control system. A lecture capture system is permanently installed in this teaching lab (call 206-6000 to schedule a recording or for training). Black and white printing is available in this lab. The instructor station has software installed to enable the instructor to view and control other PCs in the lab.

UHB 2028 [24workstations]

This classroom is equipped with 24 PCs with CD-RW/DVD drives, instructor podium with DVD/VCR player and document camera, network video projector, interactive whiteboard, and touch panel control system. Black and white printing is available in this lab. The instructor station has software installed to enable the instructor to view and control other PCs in the lab.

UHB 2030 [50 workstations]

One of our two large teaching labs, UHB2030 has 50 student stations and an instructor podium with a DVD/VCR player, document camera, 2 network video projector and touch panel control system. Printing is available through the print stations in UHB2000. The instructor station has software installed to enable the instructor to view and control other PCs in the lab.

BRK 141B [22 workstations]

Brookens 141B

This computer lab has 22 iMacs that run both the Mac OS and Windows. This lab is also outfitted with scanners, DVD/VHS combo decks with a digital video converter, and specialized software for multimedia development. This lab is used as a teaching and training lab. The instructor station has software installed to enable the instructor to view and control other PCs in the lab.

BRK 413 [24 workstations]

BRK413 Teaching Computer Lab

This computer lab is used as a teaching and training lab. The lab houses 24 PCs with CD-RW/DVD drives a B&W laser printer, video projector. The instructor station has software installed to enable the instructor to view and control other PCs in the lab.

PAC 493 [29 workstations]

PAC493 Teaching Computer Lab

This lab is used mainly for lectures and software training. It houses an instructor station, video projector, sound system, DVD/VCR player, 29 PCs with CD-RW/DVD drives and a B&W laser printer. The instructor station has software installed to enable the instructor to view and control other PCs in the lab.

HRB 111 [35 workstations]

Used mainly for lectures and software training, this lab houses PCs with CD-RW/DVD drives, instructor podium with a DVD/VCR player, video projector, interactive whiteboard and a B&W laser printer. The instructor station has software installed to enable the instructor to view and control other PCs in the lab.

VPA 54 [20 workstations]

VPA 54

This teaching computer lab is outfitted with iMacs, scanners, advanced graphics application, and improved large-scale printing capabilities. In addition these Macs have the ability to boot into the Windows 7.
