Welcome Message for New Users

Welcome to the University of Illinois Springfield

The staff of Information Technology Services welcomes you to UIS. We want to share with you some of the information technology services and resources that are available to you as a member of the UIS community. Your University Network ID (NetID) and password give you access to many valuable services on the UIS network. Some of these services are:

  • Webmail – instant access to your UIS email from any Internet location using a standard web browser: https://webmail.uis.edu
  • Blackboard Learning System – gives students and faculty access to online and on-campus course materials and communication tools 24 hours a day, seven days a week: http://bb.uis.edu
  • Box – our document management system giving you, and others you designate, anytime, anywhere access to your files. More information is available at: http://go.uis.edu/box
  • WebStore – online store for software applications, available at no cost or at a greatly discounted price: http://webstore.uis.edu
  • Enterprise Applications – web-based system for various employee and student tasks such as submitting timesheets, adding/dropping classes, paying tuition, etc.: http://apps.uillinois.edu
  • i-card – web-based system for adding funds to your i-card from a credit card: http://www.icard.uillinois.edu

UIS email and Network IDs

All UIS faculty, students, and staff are given a university email account and address at the time their Network ID (NetID) is created. Your UIS email address is your NetID followed by “@uis.edu”. For example, John Smith’s NetID is jsmit2 so his UIS email address is jsmit2@uis.edu.  Additional information about email is available here.

UIS Email Distribution Lists

Email distribution lists are available for faculty and staff use. The distribution lists allow an individual to easily send an email message to a large group of people at once. ITS Client Services

ITS Client Services is the primary point of contact for technology questions, problems, and issues. Faculty, students, and staff should contact us directly with all technology questions. You may contact us by phone, email, or by making a personal visit.. Wireless Network

The UIS wireless network is available nearly everywhere on campus. All UIS faculty, students, and staff are free to use the UISWiFi wireless network with their NetID and password to establish an encrypted link between their computer and the network. Computers on Campus

ITS requires that all computers, university-owned or privately-owned, connecting to the campus network have installed on them the most current version of McAfee VirusScan. ITS has licensed this valuable application and has made it available at no cost to all faculty, students, and staff. Visit http://webstore.uis.edu to download your free copy. ITS strongly recommends that you practice safe computing habits while using the UIS network. Computer Labs on Campus

Information Technology Services maintains several public computer labs on campus. The following labs are open to all UIS faculty, students, and staff: UHB 2000 Monday through Thursday – 7:30am to 10pm Friday – 8:30am to 5pm Saturday & Sunday – Closed BRK 180 Monday through Thursday – 8:30am to 10pm Friday – 8:30am to 5pm Saturday – 10:00am – 6pm Sunday – 2pm – 10pm Phone: 217.206.6550 HSB 108 (When not in use by a class) Monday through Thursday – 8:30am – 9:30pm Friday – 8:30am – 4:30pm Saturday & Sunday – Closed
