Neil Buono

Photo of student Neil Buono.Neil did his AST with us in Fall 09 and Spring 10 before graduating in May 2010 with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and then continuing onto law school.

He credits taking “Conviction of the Innocent” in Fall ’08 with piquing his interest in criminal defense and the realization that there is no safety net for catching wrongful convictions.

Proclaiming that he wanted an AST where he would learn more than “how to run a copier,” he felt that working with the Illinois Innocence Project would afford him the opportunity to explore the day-to-day life of working with the law and the justice system.

While assisting Bill Clutter, then Director of Investigations, with the Slover and McMillen cases, Neil attended court proceedings, interviewed witnesses, assisted with field investigations, worked with the pro-bono attorneys on the cases, and examined and analyzed case files and documents.
