Dr. Carolyn Peck

Dr. Carolyn Peck received her formal education from Oklahoma State University at Stillwater, Oklahoma.  At OSU she received a bachelor's degree in sociology, a master's degree in family relations and a doctor of philosophy degree in human environmental science.

Dr. Carolyn PeckCarolyn joined the College of Education & Human Service at UIS in fall 2002 as assistant professor of human services.  Her areas of teaching focus on Gerontology and end of life issues.

Before joining UIS, she taught at the adjunct level at Southern Nazarene University and the University of Oklahoma at Norman for ten years and seven years respectively while living in Oklahoma City.  She worked for twenty years in a variety of services delivery programs in the management of low income elderly housing, hospital based older adult program, hospice, and as the state coordinator for the Centenarian Club of Oklahoma.

Since arriving at UIS in 2002, Dr. Peck has conducted research on compassion fatigue in geriatric case managers with the Illinois department on Aging.  This research has been published in a peer review publication.  She serves in a peer review capacity for the journal Gerontology and Geriatrics Education and writes several book reviews annually for the journal Educational Gerontology.

Dr. Pecks' presentation themes at national conferences include: Death dying & bereavement, caregiver issues, compassion fatigue in geriatric case managers, and blending a family caregiver series and service learning opportunity.
