Dr. Neil C. Headman is an Assistant Professor of Human Services, primarily teaching courses in the Child and Family Studies concentration.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology
from the University of Utah in 1995, a Master of
Social Work degree from Florida State University
in 1997, and a Ph.D. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Florida State
University in 2003. He has over ten years of professional experience
working with youth and families who have relationship and behavioral
problems.
Before joining the UIS faculty, Dr. Headman worked as a Lecturer at Florida State University, maintained a small private practice, and served as the Clinical Director of a non-profit agency in Tallahassee, Florida. He has presented research at numerous professional conferences and has published a chapter on marital therapy in a peer-reviewed book.
Professor Headman has extensive experience in training and mentoring new therapists and enjoys teaching introductory and advanced courses in the human services field. His research interests include delinquency prevention, positive family development, and human relationship processes.
