Tax Deferred
Retirement Program -- 2002 Contribution
Review
Participants in the University's Tax
Deferred Retirement Program, or 403(b), will soon receive a letter
from the University's Office of Human Resource that will outline
their calculated maximum contribution limit and the percentage of
salary that can be contributed to this program for 2002. The purpose
of this letter is to allow participants the opportunity to review
their year-to-date contribution as shown on their most recent
earnings statement and to make any necessary changes (increase,
decrease, or terminate their contribution) prior to the calculation
of our last payroll for the 2002 tax year. If participants are
interested in making changes to their contribution level, a Salary
Reduction Agreement form can be obtained at https://nessie.uihr.uillinois.edu/sec-nessie/benefits/forms/SalAgree.PDF
For additional information about the
maximum contribution calculation, please contact TIAA-CREF at
1-800-842-2776. If you have questions about your choices with the
University's Tax Deferred Retirement Program, please contact Melanie
Smith at 206-7078 or Evelyn Tillman at 206-7095.
University-wide Certificate Programs Offered
In an
effort to provide general training opportunities for all
employees which are consistent among the campuses, the University
Office of Human Resources has been working with the Chicago and
Urbana-Champaign Human Resources Development (HRD) offices to
introduce two new certificate programs. Starting this Fall,
employees will be able to work towards earning a professional skills
development certificate (OfficePRO) and a customer service
certificate (ServicePRO).
The OfficePRO
certificate consists of four core workshops and several elective
workshops. The ServicePRO certificate consists of just three
core workshops. Both programs are recommended for supervisors,
managers, and front line staff.
While
the Urbana HRD office currently has several successful certificate
programs in place, the offering of certificate programs will be a
new addition to the Chicago HRD course catalog. Employees at the
Springfield campus will be encouraged to attend courses offered by
the Urbana HRD. For more details regarding the OfficePRO and
ServicePRO certificate programs, including course dates, cost,
timeframe for completion, general benefits of certification, and
registration (OfficePRO fees are $149; ServicePro fees
are $139), please visit the UIUC HRD web site at http://www.hrd.uiuc.edu/
or call 217/333-8342.
OfficePRO
and ServicePRO Certificate Programs are open to all
University of Illinois employees. While all workshops are held in
Champaign, Springfield campus employees are strongly encouraged to
attend. To help make
participation more convenient, transportation to Champaign has been
coordinated through the UIS Motor Pool for a minimal fee of
$5/participant. You
will receive more information about transportation via e-mail upon
registration.

Civil Service Exam Computerization
Implementation
continues on the four Civil Service Exams that have been
computerized. Dr. Tim Crespin of Primetrics visited each campus the
week of August 26th to do a final “dress rehearsal” of the exams
and to provide training for the campus test administration staff.
Each campus will soon be setting a “go live” date for these
exams. The computerized exams will include automatic and
instantaneous scoring of test questions, resulting in a much more
efficient process.
A
contract with Dr. Crespin has been approved for the computerization
of an additional 12 to I5 exams to be completed over this next
fiscal year. Exams were chosen based on the frequency and volume of
exams administered in each classification. Campus representatives
identified the following exams to be considered for computerization:
Secretary Series (2, 3 & 4), Customer Service Series (1, 2,
& 3), Administrative Aide, Administrative Assistant I,
Administrative Assistant II, Program Services Aide, and Grounds
Worker.
State of Illinois
Influenza Immunization Program
During October and November, the
Department of Central Management Services will provide free flu
immunizations for all active full and part-time employees enrolled
in a State-sponsored health plan. The flu shots will be available at
some of the larger State of Illinois facilities, most local county
health departments, and other health care vendor sites. Employees
will be required to present verification of employment AND a state
health insurance card. State retirees may receive the flu shot by
presenting a state health insurance card. All State employees are
eligible if they participate in either the Quality Care Health Plan
or a State-sponsored managed care plan. Dependents are not
eligible for the free flu shot.
Here
is the Sangamon County schedule of locations, dates, and times that
the free flu shots will be offered.
