TITLE:  Instructor, Communication

STARTING DATE:  August 16, 2012

DESCRIPTION:  The Communication Department at the University of Illinois Springfield has an opening beginning August 16, 2012 for an instructor to teach introductory Oral Communication courses. Oral Communication is a required general education course and focuses on both introductory communication material and speech construction and delivery. The position will require teaching eight sections of Oral Communication per year (four per semester during a nine-month appointment) and providing service to the Communication Department, such as advising. The position is a renewable, non-tenure track position.

QUALIFICATIONS: Requirements for this position include a minimum of an M.A. in Communication from an accredited university, two years of university-level teaching excellence and the ability/willingness to teach in a blended online/on-campus format.

CAMPUS: Located in the state capital, the University of Illinois Springfield is one of three campuses of the University of Illinois. The UIS campus serves approximately 5,000 students in 23 undergraduate and 21 graduate degree programs. The academic curriculum of the campus emphasizes a strong liberal arts core, an array of professional programs, extensive opportunities in experiential education, and a broad engagement in public affairs issues of the day. The campus offers many small classes, substantial student-faculty interaction, and a rapidly evolving technology enhanced learning environment. DEPARTMENT: The Communication Department has nine full-time faculty members and emphasizes both interpersonal communication and journalism/media. The department also is responsible for delivering multiple sections of Oral Communication for the university’s general education curriculum.
