TITLE: Assistant Professor, Theatre – Scenic Design/Technical Direction
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Theatre Program at the University of Illinois Springfield invites applications for a new faculty position beginning August 16, 2012. This position is a tenure-track Assistant Professor position with emphasis in Scenic Design and Technical Direction. Successful candidates must have an M.F.A. in Theatre Design (emphasis in Scenic Design) or Technical Direction (emphasis in Scenic Design), successful university level teaching experience, and evidence of scenic design and set construction proficiency. Teaching expectations include: scenic design for UIS Theatre production and teaching various theatre courses to complete the teaching load. Possibility of lighting design for productions also exists. Existing courses for this position include Theatre Practicum, Introduction to Theatre, and Principles of Design, with the possibility of adding other related theatre courses to the theatre curriculum. Successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds. Successful candidate will also supervise students in the scene shop with construction of sets for productions in coordination with Sangamon Auditorium staff and theatre faculty, and supervise production and technical crews for UIS Theatre productions.
QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of an M.F.A. in Theatre Design (emphasis in Scenic Design) or Technical Director (emphasis in Scenic Design), successful university level teaching experience, and evidence of scenic design and set construction proficiency, and experience supervising students in a scene shop environment.

DEPARTMENT: The UIS Theatre Program is a dynamic, growing program, with two full-time faculty members, and is now entering its 10th year. Beginning in 2010, the Theatre Program began offering a Minor in Theatre. UIS Theatre currently produces two productions per year, plus Student Directed Scenes in alternate years, and offers a variety of theatre courses in the curriculum.
