Testing

Civil Service employment at the University of Illinois Springfield is governed by the State Universities Civil Service System (SUCSS). An applicant for permanent Civil Service employment must compete successfully in the appropriate SUCSS examination. Examinations are open to citizens or residents of Illinois who qualify for the position. Extra Help applicants are not required to test, however a completed employment application is required.

To apply: Submit an online application at https://jobs.uis.edu

NEW APPLICANTS:

  • Log into the site, Select Create Account
  • Complete the Create Account information and select a user name and password that you will remember.  Click SAVE. You will be directed to your Profile Page.
  • Click on the Civil Service/Extra Help tab at the top of the page.
  • Scroll down the page and click on the Apply for position tab. This will generate the pre-approval process.  You will be directed back to your Profile Page.
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the page and look for Civil Service Pre-Approval Form.  Click Start, complete the required information and then click Submit.
  • You will receive an approval via email in one to three business days. Once received you may log back into the application website at https://jobs.uis.edu  Go to the profile page and login.  Scroll down to the bottom and complete the Civil Service Application Part l and Civil Service Application Part 2 by clicking START.
    Make sure to complete all 9 steps and REVIEW/SUBMIT on step 9 to save your information.
  • It is the applicant’s responsibility to supply detailed information that clearly and accurately represents his/her qualifications on the application.  Failure to do so may result in being determined “not qualified”.
  • Please visit the Job Board page for current available opportunities.
  • You may now choose to apply for a position.  Once a civil service position has been selected you will be directed to the exam request page.
  • Submit an Exam Request Form (permanent positions only, NOT for extra help positions) for the desired position(s).
  • You will be notified by email within aprox. 2-3 weeks after the transcript deadline has passed of your scheduled exam date or denial once your application has been reviewed by Human Resources staff.

RETURNING APPLICANTS:

  • https://jobs.uis.edu.
  • LOGIN USING YOUR CURRENT USER NAME AND PASSWORD.  Please DO NOT create a new account.
  • Once you have logged in with your existing account, scroll to the bottom of your profile page to Civil Service Application Part 1.  You may click EDIT to update any information on your application.  Be sure to continue to step 9 to REVIEW/SUBMIT your application to SAVE YOUR CHANGES.
  • Please visit the Job Board page for current available opportunities.
  • You may now choose to apply for position.  Once a civil service position has been selected you will be directed to the exam request page.
  • Submit an Exam Request Form (permanent positions only, NOT for extra help positions) for the desired position(s).
