Wepner Distinguished Professorship in Political Science

 

 

The Political Science Program at the University of Illinois at Springfield (UIS) seeks to fill the Wepner Distinguished Professorship in Political Science. This is a position within the area of American political development. The successful candidate will have a superior record of accomplishment in teaching and scholarship in the discipline of political science. He or she will possess demonstrated expertise in and scholarly accomplishments relating to the place of President Abraham Lincoln in American political development. Areas of scholarly emphasis may include the politics of race and class, presidential powers, separation of powers, civil liberties, American political thought, political party systems, political leadership and decision making, political ethics or political communication. The person who fills this position will be expected to engage in teaching, research and a broad range of public affairs activities.

The appointment will be at a senior faculty rank in the Political Science Program. In addition to salary, the appointment includes a substantial grant of funds to support research and development activities. Minimum qualifications are an earned Ph.D. in political science or related discipline, faculty rank at the associate professor or professor level, a strong record of scholarship with demonstrated expertise in and scholarly accomplishments relating to the place of President Abraham Lincoln in American political development. Preference will be given to candidates with a record of public affairs activities relating to academic, public sector and community constituencies and a demonstrated ability to communicate scholarship to a broad audience. Applicants must have a strong record of excellence in teaching, scholarship and service sufficient to qualify for tenure and the rank of associate professor at UIS.
