Buildings

Housing at UIS includes a wide variety of living options, ranging from one to four bedroom apartments, shared bedrooms, to private bedrooms, and family and single student housing. Single students share either two or four bedroom apartments and may request private or shared bedrooms. All units for single student housing are furnished with a bed, desk, dresser, dining table and chairs, and sofa as well as draperies or blinds and shower curtain.

The dimensions of the rooms within the buildings are as follows:

One bedroom: Living room-12’ X 8’

Lincoln Residence Hall: Bath 67 square feet

Pennyroyal, Marigold, and Foxglove courts include 72 modern, four bedroom townhouse units featuring an open floor plan, spacious living areas, cathedral style ceilings, and kitchen facilities equipped with a microwave and dishwasher.

Sunflower, Clover Court, Bluebell, and Larkspur Court were designed with the needs of upper division and graduate students in mind. All units include carpeted living rooms and bedrooms and full modern kitchens. One and two bedroom apartments contain one bathroom. Four bedroom units contain two baths. Units designed to meet the needs of students with disabilities are available in all of the complexes.

Family Housing

Family Housing is available to students who will be residing with their legal spouse and/or legally dependent children. Family residents are assigned to either one or two bedroom apartments and may request furnished or unfurnished apartments. Due to the size of the units, occupancy is limited to no more than three persons in a one bedroom apartment and no more than four persons in a two bedroom apartment. In family housing, one set of keys will be issued to each person signing the contract. Parents may request up to two additional sets of keys to be used by their children over the age of twelve.

Lincoln Residence Hall

The housing needs of freshmen and sophomore students are ideally met by the design of this residence hall. The building is three stories high with two student housing wings. Students live in four person clusters. A cluster consists of two double rooms with a shared semi private bath. Each double room is provided with flexible furniture that can be configured with two beds, two desks, and two dressers. The furniture can be stacked as bunk beds or with beds above desks. Each room is provided with a single telephone and cable TV outlet , and each student is also provided with two duplex outlets and a data outlet. Each wing is provided with a lounge and a laundry facility and is served by a Resident Assistant.

Homer L. Butler Housing Commons

Homer L. Butler Housing Commons is the hub of residential life. It serves as the social and recreational center for housing residents and is where the Housing Office is located. The Housing Commons is the site of many social functions, club meetings, and other activities sponsored by student clubs and organizations. In addition to the Housing Office, the Housing Commons includes a great room with a fireplace, TV room with a large screen TV and surround sound, and meeting room. Ping-pong, billiards, and a variety of board games are also available in the Housing Commons. The Housing Commons is open until midnight daily during the academic year. Residents and student organizations may reserve the Housing Commons for use. The Housing Commons may not be reserved for general public or private use, and all activities must be open to all housing residents. Children must be supervised at all times while in the Housing Commons. The complete Housing Commons space use policy is available in the Housing Office.

Pennyroyal 20

Pennyroyal 20, often referred to as P20, is a satellite
Housing office convieniently located in the Townhouse area. Townhouse residents can us this office instead of going to Housing Commons. Residents may also hang out and watch TV in P20 during business hours, which are posted at the office. The phone number is 206-1794.
