Beat the Streets: A Social Justice and Advocacy Course Outreach Project
The Department of Human Development Counseling is excited to share the work of HDC students in supporting our community through an outreach project in Spring 2016. As part of their coursework in the Social Justice and Advocacy course (HDC 544), students created a 5K Run/Walk to raise money for the local Helping Hands organization. Helping Hands is one of many organizations struggling financially due to the state’s budget crisis. The students worked to establish sponsors and follow city guidelines for creating, managing, and running their own 5K in Springfield’s Washington Park on April 23rd.
