Fall 2008 community event schedule – All events are free and open to the public! (pdf)The Speaker Series is a one-hour course that is part of the Engaged Citizenship Common Experience (ECCE), the distinctive set of courses taken by undergraduates at UIS to foster the appreciation for and practice of diversity and the active effort to make a difference in the world. The Speaker Series supplements the learning that occurs in the other ECCE coursework and reflects the aims of the curriculum. See the attachment for more details.
To receive one hour of credit, students must attend or participate in four lectures or events and reflect on them in writing through Blackboard courseware. Options for completing the Speaker Series are available to students who are pursuing degrees on the main campus, in Peoria, or online. No regular class attendance is necessary, although orientation sessions will be held on the main campus during the first week of classes.
We encourage you to take advantage of the inaugural semester of the Speaker Series. The Office of Undergraduate Education and other sponsors will give away free meals for some events.
For questions about the Speaker Series, please contact Kimberly Craig at 217-206-6245 or speakerseries@uis.edu or 206.6245.
