Access Services (formerly circulation)
Job Description: Works Loans Desk charging/discharging library items via manual & computer systems. Shelve all library materials used in-house and circulated. Maintenance of collection through shifting materials in crowded areas, stack duty and shelf reading. Assist with record keeping. Other duties as assigned. Requires four to six weeks training. Knowledge of “Library of Congress” and “SuDoc” classification systems necessary for accurate shelving.
Qualifications: Oral & written proficiency in the English language. Typing and/or computer keyboarding skills preferred. Excellent public relations skills. Some evening hours & weekend hours required. Previous library experience preferred but not required.
Job Description: Student assists Library faculty at Info Desk answering questions relating to use of the online Library catalog, location of books & periodicals & completion of forms for remote charge and Interlibrary loan requests. Also answers directional questions relating to Library facilities and services. May perform simple bibliographic searches while at Info Desk as well as tasks involved in the maintenance or the reference collection. Involves use of terminals for the online catalog and occasional use of microform readers.
Qualifications: Proficiency in reading & speaking English, able to communicate clearly in person and on the telephone. Ability to learn computerized Library catalog & interpret catalog to a variety of Library patron & able to work in a busy public service environment. Previous Library experience helpful but not required.
Reference Assistant- Re-shelver
Job Description: Student maintains loose-leaf services, files microform materials, shelves materials in the reference/index section of the Library. Xeroxes materials as required. Work with Library Faculty and faculty clerk on special projects as required. Familiarity with filing and shelving procedures, previous library experience very helpful but not required.
Qualifications: Attention to detail and accuracy. Alphabetizing and card filing skills.
Job Description: Arranges & describes university records & publications according to established archival principles & procedures; compiles inventories and boxlists; composes & types descriptive finding aids & contents notes. Provides reference service to the university community & general public; retrieves & reshelf archival material. Works on special projects involving audio & video types, manuscripts, and ephemera. Uses word processing & database programs. Works under general supervision of the University Archivist.
Qualifications: Typing & word processing skills; attention to detail; good reading comprehension & writing skills; ability to follow detailed instructions with limited supervision; history background & research skills helpful. Ability to lift heavy boxes helpful.

Salary : $8.00
Job Description: Process or reprocess materials by typing and applying or correcting labels, applying property stamps, adhering date blue notice slips, and laminating new paperback book covers. Assist in document processing by checking GPO shipping lists to claims, and packaging items to be shipped to Blackburn College. Assist in periodical processing by date stamping issues, inserting security strips, routing to Library Access for shelving, and shelving current newspapers. Assist in mail processing by collecting library mail from the UIS mailroom, sorting, delivering and picking up in the library departments, packaging Ill items being shipped by U.S. maill coiunting and logging all outgoing campus and U.S. mail and delivering items to the UIS mailroom. Assisting with these duties as time allows: filing returning P.O.s numerically in Archive storage boxes; weeding newspapers and periodicals and assisting with other projects as needed. .
Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively, ability to perform repetitive office practices and procedures effectively, ability to type accurately at a rate of 30 words per minute (minimum) and to file alphabetically accurately.
