Stage Hand

Job Description:  Setup and teardown for Sangamon Auditorium and Studio Theatre events related equipment including but not limited to light and sound systems, stage sets and scenery, orchestra shell risers, chairs, stands, stage curtains, TVs, VCRs, film projectors, and miscellaneous production related equipment.   The student stagehand shall participate in the regular cleaning and organizing of performance areas as well as the periodic maintenance of building equipment.  Hours will be on an as needed basis, not on a regular schedule that will include weekend hours.

Qualifications: No prior knowledge of the above equipment is required, but would be helpful.  Must have a good attitude, common sense, the ability to think on your feet, and a basic knowledge of common hand tools such as knives, pliers, screwdrivers,  etc.  Must be punctual and dependable.  Must show a sense of customer service and attention to detail..  Must be willing to participate in the production of student theatrical and entertainment events.

Student Assistant II

Job Description: Answer phones and take messages.  Light typing, computer data entry, and deliver materials on and off campus.  Back-up assistant secretary.  Assist with coffee and drink set-up for usher lunches.  Some event hospitality shopping.  Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:  Dependable.  Able to communicate clearly & accurately over the phone or in person; able to handle phone conversations with variety of people; and take accurate messages.  Multi-line phone experience helpful.  Should have word processing/computer experience.  Must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license.

Ticket Office Assistant

JOB DESCRIPTION:  Answer the telephone and provide customer service by addressing general inquiries about UIS and other events at the Auditorium, work at the Ticket Office window meeting the public, and process all phone, counter, mail and Internet orders for all ticketed events for Sangamon Auditorium, the UIS Studio Theatre, and the Springfield MUNI.  Balance individual cash drawer.  Upsell events, subscriber packages, and the Friends of Sangamon Auditorium membership program by providing pertinent event or program information.  Collect patron information to assist marketing department.  Provide support to the Administrative Office by completing various projects for Marketing, Development, and Educational Outreach.

HOURS AND UNIFORM:  Hours include some nights and weekends, course schedules are taken into consideration.  Business casual attire of an oxford-type uniform shirt (provided by the Auditorium) and Dockers™ type pants is required.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to communicate clearly & accurately with a variety of people, be detail-oriented and feel comfortable working with numbers and money.  Experience with a multi-line phone system, data input/computer keyboard, and Microsoft Access, Excel and Word are a plus.  Dependable, punctual, enthusiastic, and present a good image to the public.  Interest in the arts a plus.

Valet Parker

Job Description:

Drive cars to parking lot for patrons. Run back to get another car. Job is a great way to get exercise. Hours will be scheduled when there are events at Sangamon auditorium. Can expect to work for the entire event as well as some time before and after the event.

Qualifications: Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license and an excellent driving record.  Must be able to drive manual and automatic transmissions.  Must be willing to work varying hours on an as-needed basis.  Must be available for the majority of auditorium events during the show season.  Must be dependable and come to the job when scheduled.
