First Year Programs(CFYP) Advising Center – Advisor
Job Description: Assist students in locating tutors and other campus resources. Conduct campus tours and meetings for new CFYP participants. Provide students with important and accurate academic information. Effectively communicate study strategies to ensure academic success. Assist students with filling out academic forms such as scholarship applications.
Qualifications: Graduate student or undergrad with a 2.5 G.P.A.or above who has completed a minimum of one academic year at UIS. Dependable, responsible with a willingness to help others and ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds. Good organizational skills and able to complete paperwork in a timely manner. Must have an understanding of the skills needed to succeed in college. Must be willing to attend meetings and training sessions and be willing to commit a minimum of 5 hours a week to advising and program development. Must have a professional attitude and appearance.
Undergrad Advising Center – Peer Advisor
Job Description: Attend and participate in training sessions as mandated by the Undergraduate Academic Advising Staff and other university constituents. Maintain confidentiality regarding all student records and all professional interactions with students. (Employee will sign a confidentiality statement.) Assist Academic Advisors with individual advising sessions with students. contact students regarding advisement and academic support including the Earlyl Warning system. Help advisees explore academic options including, but not limited to, securing tutors, joining or forming study groups, researching various academic programs, and choosing a major. Assist in providing educational programming regarding academic advising and various other academic resources to students, faculty and staff. Assist in maintaining detailed student records of all advising contacts. Act as a liasion between students and Academic Advisors. Provide timely and accurate information and /or referrals to appopriate university offices or resources. Assist with office duties including , but not limited to, answering phones, greeting students, replenishing forms, managing confidential academic records, and providing other forms of clerical support as needed.
Qualifications: UIS student in good academic and disciplinary standing. Must be a sophomore, junior or a senior with a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.8., and a positive attitude. Will be serving as a representative of this office and should be capable of exhibiting proper behavior in this role. Must sign a letter of confidentiality and trust agreement.
Undergraduate Education Office – Speaker Series Assistant
Research prospective speakers, assist with travel arrangements. Create promotional items for events and bibliographies of speakers. Attend Speaker Series events. Assist with set-up and last minute details. Track attendance at events by monitoring swiping of I-cards. Assist in developing Blackboard discussion questions. Interact with students. Track Blackboard discussions. Create status reports on Blackboard participation and event attendance. Assist Office of Undergraduate Education as needed. Hours can be daytime with occasional evenings.
Qualifications: Preferred candidate will have experience using Blackboard and Excel. Event planning, marketing and promotional experience helpful. Enrollment in the general education/ECCE curriculum preferred but not required. Must be dependable, trustworthy and a good representative of the University of Illinois at Springfield. Should have strong communication and customer service skills with a positive attitude. Must sign a confidentiality and trust agreement.
