Local Area Scholarship Opportunities

The following organizations are offering scholarships. If interested, please contact the respective organizations.

Illinois Professional Land Surveyors Association

Student scholarship is offered to an Illinois student attending an Illinois school who is pursuing a baccalaureate degree in land surveying or a baccalaureate degree in a related science including at least 24 semester hours of land surveying courses from theIllinois Department of Professional Regulation Land Surveyors Licensing Board approved curriculum of an accredited institution. Scholarship is for $1,000 and applications are available on their website at http://www.iplsa.org.

Deadline to apply is December 1, 2009.

Decatur-Macon County Opportunities Corporation

Scholarships are available to low income Macon County residents, who are pursuing course work and job training through an accredited school of higher education or occupational training. They are for the Fall of 2009. To qualifty, the applicant must be a member of an income eligible household and be able to provide proof of income for the last 90 days. Applicant must be a high school graduate or have a G.E.D. and must be a resident of Macon County. The school to be attended must be in Illinois. If the applicant is currently enrolled, they cannot be on academic probation or suspension, or financial aid suspension. Students must be in good academic standing with a GPA of 2.5.

Applications are available at the Decatur-Macon County Opportunities Corporation at 1122 East Marietta Street in Decatur. When picking up an application, be sure to schedule an appointment as that is the only time the application may be submitted.

Appointments are scheduled from June 15-June 26.

When coming to the appointment, you must bring a legible copy of the application, a copy of your GED or high school diploma, driver's license and social security card for all household members, proof of income for the past 90 days, name of the institution to be attended along with proof of registration as well as the school address and a contact person. An academic certification form must be submitted by the school as well.

Independent Accountants Association of Illinois

Land of Lincoln Retired Teachers

  • Two $1000 scholarships are available for college juniors or seniors majoring in education. Deadline is in July. For an application, please contact Helen Dunn at 546-5794.

Rotary Scholarships

  • All scholarships are related to peace and understanding among countries.
  • Scholarships include the ambassadorial scholarship (Application Form 139-E), Cultural scholarships (Application Form 139-EN) and the World Peace Fellowship (Application Form 083-EN)
  • Applications are submitted through the local Rotary clubs.
