Biology Assistant
Salary: $8 per hour

Job Description:
Assist in a variety of biology classes, including BIO
371(Ecology) and BIO 141 (Introductory Biology.) Duties
for ecology may include: collecting fresh woody plant specimens
and maintaining woody plant specimens in lab, acorn collection,
picking up and driving university vans for field trips,
organizing and maintaining field gear, entering and compiling
field lab data, and helping set up field plots. Duties for
Introductory Biology may include assisting, gathering and
organizing equipment, preparation of solutions, helping out in
lab, and other duties as required. Excellent opportunity to gain
valuable hands-on experience in biological sciences.
Job Qualifications:
Undergraduate or graduate student. UIS biology
students and students with experience working in the lab or
field preferred. Federal work study student preferred.
Valid Illinois driver's license required.
Chemistry Assistant
Salary: $7.75

Job Descriptions:
Grade weekly quizzes,
laboratory reports, and monitor Blackboard discussion forums for CHE
121/122. Assist in preparing solutions and setting up
laboratory equipment. Related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications: Strong background in
chemistry. Familiarity with Blackboard. Computer skills.
Excellent organizational skills. Chemistry//biology/clinical lab
studies major preferred. Previous experience in laboratory
preparation helpful.
Lab Stockroom
Assistant
Salary: $7.75

Job Description:
Assist Natural Science Technician with general
maintenance of all labs and stockrooms in the Health Science
building. Assignments include, but are not limited ,to the
following: help maintain chemical, commodity, and small
equipment inventories; clean and stock laboratory glassware in
stockroom; help maintain greenhouse and contents; help maintain
and distribute laboratory equipment; help maintain
Material Safety Data Sheet files and equipment manuals. Support
the faculty. Other housekeeping and organizational duties as
assigned.
Qualifications:
Chemistry/biology/ clinical lab science majors
strongly preferred.
Must have or be enrolled in basic college chemistry course and
know chemical nomenclature. Must know or be willing
to learn basic lab techniques. Must be reliable and plan
to work as scheduled. Must have basic math and computer
skills.
Student Research
Technician
Salary: $9.00
Job Descriptions: Process benthic
invertebrate samples, process and analyze field samples
including filtering, chlorophyll analysis.
Qualifications: Field experience,
biology, aquatic sciences and ecology coursework and/or
experience are preferred. Good organizational skills and
demonstrable attention to detail are mandatory.

Job Description:
Undergraduate students
to pursue research projects from May 27- Aug 1, 2008.
Students will spend 40 hours per week doing laboratory and field
research as part of the Merck/AAAS Undergraduate Science
Research program. Students will work on one of two joint
projects between biology and chemistry faculties-" Chemical
Characterization of Antimicrobial and Antioxidant Compounds from
Selected Medicinal Plants" or "Microbial Community Diversity and
Its Relationship to Water Quality at the Emiquon Preserve."
Students will write a report summarizing their research to be
presented at the National Conference of Undergraduate Research
next April. In addition to pay, there is an option to
receive 6 hours of college credit. Conference expenses
will also be covered by this program. For more
