Athletics

Color Commentator

Salary:  $7.75
Hours based on team schedule; will vary per week.

Job Description: Work with the play-by-play announcer, provide color commentary during the televised women's and men's basketball games. Some travel may be required.

Qualifications: Must be able to work with another person to provide commentary on the game as it happens.  Requires extensive knowledge of the game of basketball.
 

Events Worker

Salary: $7.75
2-5 hours per week

JOB DESCRIPTION: Assist with home games including soccer, volleyball, and basketball games.  Duties include but are not limited to the following:  ticket taker or seller, assist with game day operations including floor sweeping and ushering; game day set up and take down.;  operation of scoreboard/message/board/rotating signage;  monitoring of entry gates; assist with concessions or in kiosk. 

Qualifications:  UIS student in good standing with pleasing personality, dependable, conscientious; ability to make change & attention to detail in handling money & receipts; good communication skills in dealing with the public. Must be able to work evenings, and weekends as needed. Flexible schedules are available.
  

Men's Tennis Manager

Salary: $7.75

Job Description: Reserving court times for practice, issue/collect uniforms for season, maintain equipment room, inventory equipment, prepare facility and equipment for events, keep statistics and records, assist Ass't. Sports Director, report results to media. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Student in good standing, knowledgeable in all areas of tennis, good communication skills, attention to detail, attendance at all practices/matches; able to travel with team.

Office Assistant

Salary:  $7.75
20/25 hours per week

Job Description:     Receptionist for Athletics Office.  Answer telephone for main Athletics line.  Make copies. General filing. Light typing. Run errands.

Play-by-Play Announcer

Salary:  $7.75
Hours based on team schedule.  Will vary each week.

Job Description:  Verbally present the action on the court as it happens for the video for television broadcast of the games.  Will work closely with the Sports Information Director on scripting.  Some travel may be required.

Qualifications:  Requires extensive knowledge of the game of basketball.  Previous play-by-play experience preferred.
 

Public Address Announcer

Salary:  $7.75
Hours based on team schedule. Will vary each week.

Job Description:  Operate public address system for all home games including player introductions, substitutions, music selections on a laptop, scoring, pre-game, halftime, and post-game announcements.

Qualifications:    Must be able to read a prepared script and apply vocal talent to a set itinerary.  Extensive knowledge of softball,  basketball, soccer, and volleyball.  Previous experience preferred but not necessary.  Must be able to work evenings and weekends for our home athletic games.  Hours based on team schedule and vary each week.  Must be able to modify vocal presentations and enunciate clearly.  Auditions will be held for the positions and training will follow after hire.  Must also help with game set-up and take down of public address system. 
 

Soccer Equipment Manager

Salary: $7.75

Job Description: In charge of issuance & collection of all soccer equipment; issuing game uniforms & collecting after each match--washing, drying & storing after each game; providing ice, water & first aide kit, balls & other related equipment for daily practices (3:30-6 pm) and all home matches. Provide ice, water, drinking cups for both teams on game days.

Qualifications: Must have knowledge of & love for the game of soccer; be able to get along with young people; have some knowledge of first aide & taping; soccer skills preferred; must be a team member able to travel with the team. Other duties as assigned by head coach.

Soccer Field Assistant

Salary:$7.75

Job Description: Assist in the operation of Kiwanis Stadium one hour before, during and after home soccer games. Duties include security patrols, sending and transmitting of messages to other stadium personnel and dignitaries, other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: Must be available for specified dates and games.

Statistician

Salary:  $7.75

Hours based on team schedule. Hours will vary each week.

Job Description:  Working with another person, call out or input codes into a laptop computer. Responsible for statistics for softball, basketball, soccer and volleyball for both home and visiting teams.  Accuracy and attention to detail is mandatory.  All statistics for the game will be official and will be web cast simultaneously as the game is played.   Extensive training will be provided.

Qualifications:  Extensive knowledge of the sports of softball, basketball, soccer, and/or volleyball preferred, but not necessary.  Knowledge of operating a laptop computer is necessary.   Must be able to work evenings and weekends for home athletic games. Must also help with game set up and take down.

Tutor

Salary: $7.75

Job Description: Students needed to tutor student athletes. Subject matter and hours will vary.

Qualifications: Must have good grades in the subject matter you are tutoring.
 
 

Volleyball Assistant

Salary: $7.75

Job Description: To serve as scorer, timer &/or line judge at UIS Prairie Stars home intercollegiate volleyball matches as scheduled.

Qualifications: Knowledge of volleyball preferred but not necessary as training will be provided. Abilities include: dependability, attention to detail, interest in the sport. Must be willing to work weekday evenings &/or Saturdays depending upon game schedule.

Women's Basketball Manager

Salary: $7.75

Job Description: Get out and return equipment; set up and run clock; help with taping; assist with drills at practices, video game, launder uniforms at away games. Other duties as assigned by coaching staff.

Qualifications: Responsible, dependable, reasonable knowledge of game of basketball. Willing to be at all home and away games, be at all practices 30 minutes before they begin from September through February.
 
 

Women's Tennis Team Assistant

Salary: $7.75

Job Description: Assist the Women's Tennis Coach as follows: Assist in tennis drills and conditioning exercises necessary to form the team and prepare it for competition. Will not necessarily travel with the team on away matches.

Qualifications: Posses the necessary skills to not only play tennis on the college level but the experience and skills to help teach tennis fundamentals and to aid in proper conditioning drills. Should be a member of the men's tennis team.

Women's Volleyball Team Manager

Salary: $7.75

Job Description: Responsibilities include maintaining equipment room; keeping up-to-date equipment inventory, having facilities and equipment ready for competition and clean-up afterwards (Set up and take down nets, provide water, first aid kit/ice, picking up van and loading equipment for away matches); keeping match/tournament records/statistics; help Assistant Sports Info. Director report competitive results to media; other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: In good academic standing; dependable; love volleyball and be knowledgeable about it. Good communication skills; organized with attention to detail and record keeping; able to relate to team members; travel with the team and attend all home and away games. Have a valid driver's license.
