Rechargeable batteries containing lithium and/or nickel-cadmium are widely used on campus by departments including:

  1. Police
  2. Building service workers
  3. Television office
  4. Engineers
  5. Building maintenance

Applications:

  1. Cellular phones
  2. telecommunications equipment
  3. Portable audio-visual equipment
  4. Emergency lights
  5. Electric tool
Lead acid motor vehicle batteries were banned from landfills on September 1, l990.
UIS currently exchanges old motor vehicle batteries for new when purchasing a battery. Student housing residents can sell used motor vehicle batteries to a local buyer.
