about the program

Success blocksThe English as a Second Language (ESL) Program is designed for people whose first language is not English. We work with international and domestic students. Students do not need to be enrolled at UIS to take advantage of our programs. We also support UIS faculty and staff who work with non-native English speakers. Our mission is to help students reach their academic and personal goals and support them in succeeding at UIS and beyond.

The ESL Program runs year round. We offer three types of courses:

(1) traditional classes during the academic year;

(2) an 8-week intensive summer program; and

(3) short-term individually tailored cultural exchanges to our exchange partners.
