Hi SAGErs,
Here are the minutes from last week's meeting. Just as a
quick update: We do have a set date and place for the Hazardous Waste
Collection! It's going to be held on April 12 in IDOT's parking lot from
8am-3pm. We can discuss when we want to head over there during our next meeting
(April 1st- April Fools Day!). If you have any extra shoeboxes lying
around, feel free to bring them in at the next meeting. Spread the word: Tell
your friends and families to give their dead batteries to the drive.
See you next week (I'll send out a reminder about our next
meeting so you all don't forget to come and see some exciting pictures from
Belize!),
~Rachel
SAGE
Meeting Minutes- 3/18/2008
UHB
1004 4:00pm-5:00pm
- Welcome back! How was everyone's
spring break? Tih-Fen said her break sucked.
Rachel, on the other hand, had an awesome break. Others were sort of in
between.
- Co-Sponsorship with OLAS
(Organization for Latin American Students):
- They just needed us to contact the
UIS Recycling Coordinator for the use of paper products
- Their perspective dates for the
whack-a-piņata event is April 3rd or April 11th.
They'll let us know when they pick the date. No
one from OLAS has contacted me nor have I seen anything in the student life
emails about their event. I'll keep everyone
posted.
- Updates on Earth Week
events:
- Food for the concert event (Monday
the 21st of April) - How is the menu coming along? The menu is still in the works. Ann is in contact
with Brian Patterson for the prices on certain things like sausage pizza and
cookies. We found out that veggie burgers were quite expensive, so it would
be more economical to go with a veggie party sub that can feed 14 people.
- We should go to an ICCB meeting
soon to request money. Hopefully we can get the
menu in order by this week since the request to ICCB must be made by Friday
the 28th.
- Upcoming GIS Workshop at the Lincoln
Memorial Garden:
- March 22, 2008
1:00-3:00pm
- Free, but call 529-1111 to
register since space is limited
- Any other
business?
- Rachel and Rich will
be doing a short presentation on the goods and bads (but mostly goods) of
their trip to Belize next meeting (April 1)
- We discussed the
award for the Greenest Administrator on campus to be given out at the concert.
A few names were thrown out, but people seemed to say Chris Miller a lot. If
you'd like to nominate an administrator, please feel free to email Rachel with
your nomination.
- Household Hazardous
Waste Collection Day: April 12 @ IDOT in Springfield
CONFIRMED!
- We will hold a
battery (and CFLs?) recycling drive from April 1 until April 11
- We discussed that
about 15 boxes will be sufficient, but we may need more.so if you have extra
shoeboxes please bring them to the April 1st meeting
please!
- Wes informed us that
there will be a 5k race at UIS this year on April 19th and has
requested volunteers to work a water stand. We can decorate the stand with
Earthy things related to our club. He will keep us posted.
- There is a new
bulletin board between Tih-Fen and Denise's office wall where fliers, a list
of SAGE meeting dates, maybe minutes, and other related things will be posted.
Check it out sometime!
