Office of Enrollment Management
Retention at UIS
We are committed to enhancing student retention and degree completion
rates for students enrolled on our campus. Retention efforts take a
variety of forms including periodic sampling of our student body to obtain
their feedback regarding their educational experiences at UIS.
Every spring, we ask our freshmen and our seniors to complete the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), a nationally normed
instrument. The NSSE project is grounded in the assumption that the
frequency with which students are engaged in activities that represent
effective educational practice is a meaningful proxy for collegiate quality.
On a biennial basis, the Student Satisfaction Inventory (SSI), a
nationally normed instrument developed by Noel Levitz, is administered. The SSI is completed by a stratified sampling of both undergraduate and
graduate students and provides the campus with important information
regarding students' satisfaction with academic, business, and student
services on the campus.
The results from both the NSSE and the SSI are shared with the
chancellor's cabinet, the academic cabinet, and
various other campus constituencies to identify actions that may be taken to
enhance the educational experience of our student body.
