Meet our Core Faculty: Patricia Oman
Visting Assistant Professor of English
Ph. D. English, University of Oregon
Office: UHB 4031
Dr. Oman received her PhD from the University of Oregon in 2010. She specializes in representations of place, space, and region in 20th century American literature and film. She is especially interested in Midwest regionalism, children’s media, and Hollywood genres such as musicals and horror.
Currently Dr. Oman is working on a monograph on representations of American regions in the postmodern period that incorporates texts as widely varied as L. Frank Baum’s The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Disneyland, and the horror film Candy Man. She is also co-editing a collection of horror film criticism that explores the relationship between horror and place.
Dr. Oman takes great delight in challenging traditional definitions of literary and academic value and encourages her students to view all aspects of their lives with a critical eye.
