Digital Media and Communication Intern – Summer 2014

The Digital Media and Communications Intern will play an active role in the development of SCVB’s online community. Under the supervision of the Digital Marketing Manager, the intern will assist in the maintenance of the SCVB’s presence on various digital and social media platforms. The intern will help create and publish content that is relevant to our customer base. He/she will also assist in maintaining the SCVB’s archive of digital images, videos, and other content. The intern will learn how to reach various customer communities, interact with business partners and promote events or programs through the internet and gain experience in social media performance.



Digital Media

  • Uploads and catalogs SCVB photos and videos to hospitality partner and event accounts for use on SCVB website
  • Organizes digital images according to purpose (print or web) and designated program categories
  • Assists in analysis of website and related microsites to promote customer usage and promote SEO/SEM initiatives
  • Analyzes and updates hospitality partner data fed into SCVB website and related microsites
  •  Completes other digital media projects as assigned.

Social Media

  • Assists with updates to multiple social media accounts including: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest and Flickr
  • Responds to posts or comments to bring  value to user’s interactions with SCVB
  • Performs research to find articles, stories, resources, or other content that is relevant to our customer base and posts it to our social networks in a manner that invites conversation and interaction.
  • Updates social media accounts with current and relevant photos, video, or other content from SCVB activities and events.
  • Grows SCVB’s online social networks by increasing fan-base and interactions.
  • Completes other social media projects as assigned.


  • Regularly perform competitive analysis on digital media efforts for similar organizations and reports on “social media best practices”.
  • Completes other research projects as assigned.

General Communication

  • Periodically handles call center and walk-in inquiries
  • Periodically assists with convention welcome and materials delivery to multiple sites within the Springfield area
  • Completes other communications projects as assigned.



  • Creative self-starter who is comfortable with both taking initiative and working in collaboration.
  • Detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and strong work ethic and enjoy working with a diverse population.
  • Experience with Microsoft applications, basic photo-editing software, and internet browsers. Experience with Photoshop a plus.
  • Familiarity and facility with mainstream social media platforms, including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and LinkedIN
  • Completion of at least 2 classes in the communications, public relations or related courses of study is preferred
  • Available to work 20 – 30 hours per week. General office hours are between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM Monday through Friday. Must be flexible and able to assist with occasional coverage of after-hours or weekend events in the Springfield area.



  • Open to all college students, undergraduate and graduate
  • Internship may be a paid internship or college credit internship
  • Students seeking credit must work with their college professor(s) to determine hours needed and criteria for earning college credit.
