Application Requirements

Educational Leadership, MA – Principal Endorsement

In addition to completing the UIS application for graduate study, applicants are expected to submit a photocopy of a valid state teaching certificate at the time of application.

To be eligible for full admission to the master of arts program in educational leadership – principal preparation, applicants must have earned a baccalaureate degree with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale, submit a letter of intent, submit a professional portfolio for review, and complete an interview with two faculty.

Teacher Leadership, MA

In addition to completing the UIS application for graduate study, applicants are expected to complete the supplementary application (MTL Personal Data form) found at www.uis.edu/mtl .

To be eligible for full admission to the master of arts program in educational leadership – master teaching and leadership concentration, applicants must have earned a baccalaureate degree with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.

Educational Leadership – Superintendent’s Endorsement

In addition to completing the UIS application for graduate study, applicants are expected to complete the program application and personal data form (available below), submit a resumé, writing sample, goals essay, three references using the reference form (available below), and take the GRE General Test.

In the goals essay applicants should discuss/describe past leadership experiences in terms of the applicant’s potential strength as an educational leader. Describe career goals and include a tentative projection of what the applicant would like to be doing professionally during the five-year period following completion of the program. What additional skills does the applicant believe will be needed in order to fulfill these goals and how does the tentative focus of graduate study relate to these goals? How does the EDL Post-Master’s Certificate program in educational leadership relate to the applicant’s past experiences and future goals.

Admission to the superintendent’s endorsement cohort is competitive. Students must be current or recently practicing school administrators or supervisors, or teaching or government leaders. To be eligible for full admission to the superintendent’s endorsement course work, applicants must have earned a master’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.
