October Deadlines:Acorn Equality Fund Scholarship – this scholarship is designed to provide academic financial support for gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender students or the children of gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender parents. There are two scholarships, on based upon academic performance and need; and the other based upon academics, volunteerism, and advocacy. Outstanding Students of America Scholarship – this scholarship is open to any senior with a GPA of 3.00 and above who is active in community service and school activities. Coca-Cola Scholars Program – Four-year scholarships ranging from $4000 to $20,000 awarded by the Coca-Cola Company based upon a number of factors, with special emphasis on character, leadership in school, civic, and other extracurricular activities, academic achievement, and motivation to serve and succeed in all endeavors. November Deadlines:Susan Komen Breast Cancer College Scholarship – This scholarship, worth up to $10,000 is offered to students who have lost a parent to breast cancer and intend to attend a state supported college or university in Illinois. High School Christian Student Athlete All-American – $1,000 scholarships given to outstanding Christian Student-Athletes. December Deadlines:SAE Engineering Scholarship Program – The Society of Automotive Engineers offers scholarships from specific universities ranging from $400 to full tuition for students intending to earn a degree in engineering or related science; as well as undesignated scholarships ranging from $1000 to $10,000. Deadline: December 1 Illinois Society of Professional Engineers Scholarship – The Illinois Society of Professional Engineers provides two $1000 awards for students pursuing careers in engineering. AIA/AAF Minority/Disadvantaged Scholarship – The AmericanArchitectural Foundation offers this scholarship to provide assistance to students from a minority and/or financially disadvantaged background who intend to pursure a professional degree in architecture. Burger King Scholars Foundation Award – The Burger King Corporation offers $1000 scholarships to applicants who have a minimum GPA of 2.50, work an average of 15 hours per week, participate in community service and/or co-curricular activities, obtain a letter of recommendation from their principal and employer, and demonstrate financial need. January Deadlines:Burger King Scholars Foundation Award – The Corn Belt Energy Corporation offers $1000 scholarships to children of members of electric cooperatives. Awards are based upon GPA, test scores, work and volunteer experience, participation in school and community activities, biographical statement, and knowledge of electrical cooperatives as demonstrated by a short essay. Gates Millennium Scholars Program – Funded by a grant from Bill and Melinda Gates, this scholarship is available to African-American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander-American, or Hispanic American students who have a minimum GPA of 3.30 and have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular or other activities, and meet Federal Pell Grant eligibility criteria. This is a highly competitive process and students are encouraged to submit their nomination packet as early as possible. Deadline: January 16. McKelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarship – The McKelvey Foundation offers this scholarship to seniors who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit by owning and operating their own business while in high school. Applicants must own and operate a genuine business (non-profits are eligible) and have at least one employee, even if only part-time and complete the on-line application by the deadline. The scholarship is worth up to $10,000 per academic year for 4 years and an additional $2,500 for a summer abroad program. Apply on-line at www.mckelveyfoundation.org. Deadline: January 31. February Deadlines:Phi Delta Kappa Scholarship for Prospective Educators – This professional organization presents $500 to $5,000 scholarships to students planning on a career in education. ESA Foundation Scholarships – ESA Foundation offers several different scholarships ranging from $500 to $1,500. IAA Foundation Scholarships – The IAA Foundation is awarding several scholarships for students who will major in agriculture, agribusiness, or an agriculture-related course of study in college. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of exceptional scholastic ability and/or financial need. Applicants must be either a member of the Illinois Farm Bureau, spouse or the member’s child. There are six scholarships available to U-High students and they are listed below. Students may apply for as many as they wish, but are limited to receiving one. IAA Foundation General Scholarship – Eight $750 scholarships will be awarded. Applicant must be a major in agriculture, agribusiness, or an ag-related field. William J. Kuhfuss Memorial Scholarship – One $1.200 scholarship will be awarded. Applicant must attend a post-secondary institution in the state of Illinois (including junior colleges and trade schools) and working toward an occupation in an ag-related field. Preference is given to students from an agricultural background.. Dale E. Butz Scholarship – One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded. Applicant must have a background in production agriculture that is majoring in agriculture, agribusiness, or an ag-related field. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of scholastic ability and financial need. Fletcher A. Gourley Scholarship – Four $1,750 scholarships will be awarded. Two to children of current patrons (defined as a producer who sells milk to Prairie Farms Dairy) of the Prairie Farms Dairy and two to children of current employees of the Prairie Farms Dairy. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of exceptional scholastic ability and/or financial need. Jewel-Osco Drug Scholarships – Both Jewel and Osco Drug award $500 - $1,000 scholarships to students who are current employees. Selection is based upon academic achievement, school and community involvement, job performance, and a strong interest in a career with Jewel or Osco. Mercedes-Benz USA Scholarship Program – Students who have a minimum 3.00 GPA and will be the first in their family to attend college may apply for this $2,500 renewable scholarship. Key Club International Scholarships – Key Club International offers seven different scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,500. Applicants must be active Key Club members who have at least a 3.50 GPA, participated in several service projects, completed the application, supplied reference letters, and written an essay. Please note that some of the various scholarships have different deadlines, however, the general deadline is February 11. Deadline: February 11. Key Club International Scholarships – The Best Buy Company awards scholarship ranging from $500 to $2,500. Applicants will initially be evaluated on their level of volunteer community service over the past four years. Recipients will be selected by the level of volunteer service, as well as the student’s academic achievement, work experience, school activities, statement of goals, and an outside appraisal. Financial need is not considered. The first 15,000 applicants will be considered. Applications are available at www.bestbuy.com/scholarships. Applications will be available after January 1, 2007. Deadline: February 15 KFC Colonel’s Scholars Program – KFC offers scholarships of up to $5,000 per year to students who will enroll in a public, in-state college, maintain at least a 2.75 GPA, are US citizens or permanent residents, need financial assistance for college, and have an entrepreneurial spirit. The Links Scholarship – The Central Illinois Chapter of The Links, Inc. offer a $1,000 scholarship to an Africian-American student planning on attending college. Applicants must have a minimum 3.00 GPA and reside in the Bloomington-Normal, Champaign, Springfield or Charleston area. A typed application, high school transcript, and a typed essay must be submitting for consideration. Deadline: February 28. March Deadlines:American Chemical Society Scholars Program – This program is designed to encourage African-American, Hispanic, and Native American students to pursue undergraduate college degrees in the chemical sciences ACS will award 100 scholarships ranging from $2,500 to $5,000 per academic year. Eligible students must be high academic achievers in chemistry or science, be able to demonstrate financial need, and intend to pursue a degree in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or a chemically-related science. Deadline: March 1 Illinois AMVETS Scholarship Program – The Illinois AMVETS provides the following scholarship opportunities, all with deadlines of March 1: Illinois AMVETS Service Foundation Scholarship – Four-year scholarship of $1,000 per year for students who have taken the ACT or SAT tests. Preference will be given to children or grandchildren of a veteran Illinois AMVETS Sad Sacks Nursing Scholarship – One-year scholarship for $500, for students accepted in a pre-approved nursing program. Applicants should have a satisfactory academic record, character, interest and activity record, and financial need. Priority will be given to the dependent of a deceased or disabled veteran. Illinois AMVETS Junior ROTC Scholarship – Four-year scholarship for $1,000 per year for participants in a Junior ROTC program, who have taken the ACT or SAT tests. Preference will be given to the child or grandchild of a veteran Illinois AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Memorial Scholarship – One-year scholarship for $500, for children or grandchildren of veterans who served after September 15, 1940 and was Honorably Discharged or who is currently serving in the military. Applicants must have taken either the ACT or SAT test. Illinois AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary Worchild Scholarship – One-year scholarship for $500, for children of a deceased veteran who served after September 15, 1940 who was Honorably Discharged. They need not be killed in action or deceased as a result of a service-connected disability. Applicants must have taken either the ACT or SAT test. Illinois Odd Fellow-Rebekah Scholarship Program – Scholarship awards of $500 and $1,000 are open to students maintaining at least a 2.00 GPA and demonstrating financial need. Illinois Special Education Teacher Tuition Waiver Program – The Illinois Student Assistance Commission awards tuition waiver scholarships to any of the twelve state universities for students who will major in and agree to teach for a minimum of two years in Special Education. USA Funds Access to Education Scholarships – USA Funds awards renewable scholarships to students with financial need. Applicants can be those planning on full-time or part-time college attendance, and who have an annual adjusted gross family income of $35,000 or less. Awards range from $750 to $1500 annually. Additionally, the organization targets 50% of all scholarships to students with a physical disability or of a recognized minority group. Illinois Women in Leadership High School Scholarship - Scholarship provided by Illinois Women in Leadership to assist Sangamon County women students in post secondary education by encouraging them to set and pursue career goals. Deadline March 2. Illinois Chemical Education Foundation Scholarship – The Chemical Industry Council of Illinois presents a number of $2,000 scholarships each year to top high school senior science students. Their objective is to honor students who have exemplified outstanding achievement in academics, extracurricular/employment activities, and community involvement. Application includes letters of recommendation and an essay. Deadline: March 5. Bloomington Elks Physical & Occupational Therapy Scholarship – The Elks Lodge sponsors up to $1000 scholarships for students majoring in Physical or Occupational Therapy. Applicants must have a minimum B average. Evaluation is based upon academic qualifications, financial need and personality and desire. Bloomington Kiwanis ON TRACK Award – This $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a student who has faced adversity at home or at school and has overcome that obstacle to get back “on track” with their lives and remain focused on continuing education. Students must be nominated, however there is no restriction on who may nominate a student. The person making the nomination must write and explanation of how the student got back on track. The nominee must reside in Bloomington, Illinois, be in good standing, submit a recommendation, and write a short essay. Deadline: March 15. Illinois Sheriff’s Association Scholarship – The Illinois Sheriff’s Association will be awarding $500 scholarships to students throughout the state of Illinois. Scholarships must be utilized at a State of Illinois institution of higher learning and students must be enrolled as full-time students. Applications are returned to the sheriff’s office in the county of the applicants’ permanent residence. Illinois Women in Leadership Chrysalis Award - Scholarship award provided by Illinois Women in Leadership to assist Sangamon County women who have been out of high school for 5 years or more and are enrolling in a college, university or trade school; or women who are continuing or returning to college who do not yet have an undergraduate degree. Deadline March 15 Kohl’s Kids Who Care Program – The Kohl’s Kids Who Care Program is an annual opportunity to recognize and reward students (ages 6 to 18) who volunteer in their communities. Awards range from Kohl’s $50 gift cards to $5,000 scholarships toward college. Nomination forms are available beginning February 1 at any Kohl’s Department Store or from the Kohl’s website at www.kohlscorporation.com and can be returned to any Kohl’s customer service desk. Deadline: March 15. Lori L. Kashmer Scholarship Fund - Scholarship established to give financial assistance in memory of Lori L. Kashmer, who had a passion for learning and helping others. It is available to either a part-time or full-time student who is pursing a degree in nursing, health or medical career, or in veterinary medicine. Deadline March 15 Scholar Athlete Milk Mustache of the Year – The milk processors sponsor this $7,500 award program. Applicants are judged on academic performance, athletic excellence, leadership, community service, and milk experience. Applicants must register on-line at www.whymilk.com before March 16. Bloomington/Normal Girls Softball Association Scholarship – This $600 scholarship is awarded to students who have played softball with the BNGSA three out of the four years of high school. Illinois Heartland Decorative Artists Scholarship – This organization has established a $1,000 scholarship to an art student who will be attending college following graduation and be pursuing a career in the fine arts. Computer and graphic arts are not being considered at this time. The award will be based on interest, talent, desire, and need. Applicants must reside within 100 miles of Champaign, IL. Deadline: March 30. Transportation Club of Bloomington Education Grant Program – Five awards of $1,000 will be awarded to area students. Applicant’s parent/grandparent/guardian must be employed in a transportation related occupation; be involved in school and community activities; and a high school senior or college freshman. A one-page essay is also required. Special consideration will be given to those applicants who will be attending vocational/technical schools. Deadline: March 30. Illini Club of McLean County Scholarship -- The Illini Club awards five scholarships ranging from $750 to $1,000 for McLean County residents enrolling at the University of Illinois. Criteria used to select students include academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community involvement, and work experience. Deadline: March 31. Italian Culture Society Scholarship – This Bloomington based organization presents scholarships based upon good academic standing and leadership qualities. An application, reference/nomination form, cover letter and supporting information (may be an essay, artwork portfolio, musical audition tape, or research paper related to Italian culture) are required. General Assembly Scholarship Program (Brady) – Students who will be attending state universities in Illinois may submit applications for the General Assembly Scholarship program to their local State Representative. The scholarship is for one year’s tuition and most fees. For those living in the 88th Representative District, Daniel Brady is the Representative. State Farm Holiday Classic Scholarship – Classic Tournament, Inc. is offering four scholarships to student-athletes ranging from $500 to $1,000. Student-athletes who participated in the tournament may apply by completing an application, submitting an essay, their transcript, and a letter from their basketball coach verifying that they have or will earn a varsity letter in basketball. Illinois Masonic Healthcare Scholarship – Applicants for this scholarship must plan to pursue a career in the health care field. Applicants must be residents of Illinois, and must maintain a "B" average to continue receiving this scholarship. Leon M. Abbott Scottish Rite Scholarship – Leon M. Abbott Scholarships provide financial support for the continuing education of young men and women from Scottish Rite families and Masonic-related youth groups. The American Passion Play – Sponsored by the American Passion Play, this scholarship is awarded yearly based on financial need, career plans, affiliation with the American Passion Play or the Valley of Bloomington, A.A.S.R., and scholarship merit, as evidenced by academic performance. Sherwood and Evelyn Kriskin Memorial Scholarship – Applicant may attend either an Illinois university or one in a state contiguous to Illinois at either the undergraduate or graduate level, but must reside in Illinois. The applicant must maintain a "B" average or better to continue receiving this scholarship. Grand Lodge of A.F. & A. M. Illinois Scholarship – Applicant must have a blood relative who is a Master Mason in good standing and must reside in the State of Illinois. The applicant must have a "B" average. Applicant will receive the scholarship for one year only but may re-apply for additional years. Robert B. Perkins Memorial Scholarship – Applicant must have a blood relative who is a Scottish Rite Mason in good standing and must reside in the State of Illinois. The scholarship is based on academic standing and the applicant must maintain a "B" average to continue receiving this scholarship. A. Colville Wilson Scholarship For Graduate Work – Applicants must be a graduate student in the health care field relating to children's medicine and must reside in the State of Illinois NAACP Scholarship – The Bloomington/Normal branch of the NAACP bases this scholarship upon scholastic achievement (3.00 minimum GPA), letters of recommendation, and an essay. Deadline: April 1. George Mangiaracina Memorial Scholarship – The Illinois Employment and Training Association offers a scholarship of up to $1,000. Applicants must submit an application, an essay, be in the top 50% of their class, and attend college in Illinois. Deadline: April 1. Illinois Lumber & Material Dealers Association Educational Foundation Scholarship – The ILMDA awards scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,000 to student who pursue industry-related course work at Illinois colleges and universities. The scholarships are to assist and encourage students to further their interest in the lumber and building materials field. Applicants must have a minimum 2.00 GPA in order to apply. Prairieland Collegiate Cougar Scholarship – Prairieland Elementary School’s parent-teacher organization will be awarding two scholarships of $500 each to graduating seniors who attended Prairieland Elementary School. Consideration will be given to students who demonstrate high academic achievement, have a record of involvement in school and community activities, and complete the application’s written essay. Deadline: April 13. AMVETS National Scholarship Program – AMVETS offers six four-year scholarships of $4,000 ($1,000 per year) to children and grandchildren of veterans. Applicants must have a minimum of a 3.00 GPA, be a child or grandchild of a veteran who is an AMVETS member, be a US citizen, and demonstrate academic promise and financial need. Deadline: April 15. Excellence in Agriculture Scholarship – This is an award for a high school senior who is looking to pursue a career in agriculture at either a two-year or four-year college or university. Applicants must have a 2.50 GPA during his/her senior year, accepted to enrollment at an accredited college, university, or community college within the State of Illinois by May 15th. Applicants must have two letters of reference and have the potential to make a significant contribution to society demonstrated by extra-curricular activities. Deadline: April 15. Journal Star Newspaper Career Scholarship – The Peoria Journal Star Newspaper offers two $4,000 scholarships to students planning careers in reporting, editing, photography, graphic design, or marketing and who will major in journalism, photojournalism, marketing, or graphic design. Applicants must reside in one of the following counties: Peoria, Tazewell, Woodford, Fulton, Marshall, Putnam, Knox, Warren, Henderson, McDonough, LaSalle, Bureau, Stark, Schuyler, or Mason. Educational Communications Scholarship – The ECS Foundation offers 61 scholarships ranging in value from $1,000 to $6,000. Primary consideration is based upon GPA and Aptitude Tests Scores (ACT/SAT) with secondary consideration given to involvement in school or community athletics or work experience. Epilepsy Foundation Scholarship – The Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Chicago awards three $1,000 scholarships to students with epilepsy. An application, essay, two letter of recommendation, doctor’s statement verifying the diagnosis of epilepsy or a seizure disorder, personal statement and resume are required for submission. Deadline: May 15. Illinois Business Education Association Scholarships – This $500 scholarship is awarded by the IBEA to students who plan to enroll in a teacher education program with an emphasis in business education in an Illinois school that leads to certification in business, marketing, and/or computer education. An application, letters of recommendation, and an essay are required. Deadline: May 17. Triangle Achievement Award – The Gamma Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon International Fraternity awards the $500 and $1,000 Triangle Achievement Award to males who will attend the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Applicants are judged by their academic success in high school, as well as leadership in extracurricular activities. Applicants do not have to make any commitment to join the fraternity. Deadline: June 4.ERCA Community Contribution Scholarship – The Educational Research Center of America offers $1,000 scholarships to students who have made a difference in their community and complete the application form. Applications are available on their website, www.studentresearch.org/public. Please note that there is a $3.50 processing fee to apply for this scholarship. Deadline: June 17. National Image Latino Scholarship Fund – The Central Illinois chapter of National Image, Inc. provides three $750 scholarships to Central Illinois Latino students. Applicants must be at least half Latino, reside in Central Illinois, and have a minimum 2.00 GPA. An application form, letters of recommendations, and an essay are required. Deadline: June 25. Towanda Lions Club Steve Liebenow Memorial Scholarship – The Towanda Lions Club is offering this $500 scholarship to students who live in the Towanda area.
