What Is Second Life?
Second Life is a three-dimensional, virtual, online world, where members create avatars (graphic representations of themselves) to navigate the simulated world and interact with other members. Downloading Second Life and picking your avatar are free.
Why Visit?
The World Campus island (called Univ Illinois Spfld World Campus) was created as a community gathering place for University of Illinois at Springfield students on and off campus including online learners outside of their courses. It provides you with access to many essential support services and to events developed to help connect you with your future alma mater!

Getting Started with Second Life®
Create your Second Life avatar:
- Create your free account.
- Download the free Second Life client and log in.
- Follow the tutorial in our orientation area.
Become a Virtual Mentor in Second Life®
We are seeking World Campus students who are comfortable using Second Life to join our volunteer Virtual Mentor Team. As a virtual mentor, you will serve as a guide to Second Life for students less familiar with navigating the virtual world. Students interested in volunteering should contact us.
